The book was recommended to me - but for me it fails to add as much to my understanding of bible words as I has hoped.
It is more a linguistic scholarly work than one which expands on the biblical understanding and insight of the words in their context. It lacks a Hebraic background in many cases.

Inspired Language 3 July 2011

The King James version of the Bible is quoted in old movies and was the Bible of English speaking history. The language is gorgeous, but some words are not understood these days. This book solves that problem, but it also adds a lot of insight into the historical context of the defined words. Yes, the KJV has some errors, and so do the modern translations. But when I read a KJV Bible, I have more of a feeling that it is God speaking to me, and it gives me a better appreciation of how the Bible came to this generation through the ages. An education in Elizabethan English also opens the possibility of enjoying Shakespeare.

Love this study tool 3 Feb. 2011

Love this book. It has been a great help to me.
This book is NOT a "bible commentary."
I know that there are other resources out there to look up hard-to-understand Old English words, but this book puts them all in one place, without requiring the use of any computer or electronic device.
The King James Bible is written in Old English--the way people wrote / spoke English 400 years ago.
We have to admit, that many words and phrases we use today in speech and writing are just not the same words that they used then.
And although the SOUND of the words and sentences in the KJV bible are beautiful, it is the MEANING of the verses that is of the most importance spiritually.
If you desire to really understand what you are reading in the King James Version, then this book will most certainly be a start of some help to you.
A great companion book to stay OPEN beside your bible while you do your bible reading.

I ordered this book because I read the King James version of the Bible and it is very helpful for some words you are not familiar with. It came back in bubble wrape and in great condition.

It wasn't quite what I was looking for; other than that it was ok Just too much info with many other Bible translations; I am only interested in the King James.
