A very exciting read 3 July 2008
Format:Hardcover
I've read the book and thought it was absolutely fantastic - I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed the characters, the storyline and the historical detail. It's a bit bloody in places, but they were violent times and I thought the battle scenes were compelling and well done. Although I'm not a "classicist" like the previous reviewer, I love the Greek myths and thought the book did an excellent job of bringing them to life. It's a brilliantly told story and I would recommend it to anybody!

A fresh perspective 24 Jun 2009

Enjoyed David Gemmel's Trojan Series?

Then this is a book for you.

The adventure follows Odysseus and his band as they travel from Ithaca to Sparta in pursuit of the infamous `Helen'. Oracles, battles, monsters, Gods and much more saturates the story as you travel with the band.

A highly recommended book if the legends and myths of ancient Greece fascinate you.

Short, simple and thoroughly engrossing - it's an ideal light read.

rip-roaring read 21 Mar 2010
Format:Hardcover
I'll keep this short and sweet. I am a big fan of quasi-historical novels and in the main I like to keep to ones that are based 100% in reality even if only 80% accurate. This book obviously transcends to the semi-mythical/fiction realm but still with a big nod to classical Greece and the characters therein. Yes there are a few errors here and there but who cares when the story whips along with great characters and a backdrop reminiscent of a Harryhausen film.

Every now and again it's great just to read a novel and not feel inclined to criticise it for historical accuracy. This book is on the money for me and I look forward to reading the next installment

A Rip-snorter...
If you enjoy Cornwell, Iggulden, Scarrow et al you'll enjoy this book. Well-written in accessible, modern prose, it retells the tale of Odysseus' adventures with a restrained nod... Read more

A Masterpiece
If Historical Novels are your thing and you only read 3 books this year, make it this trilogy. Beautifully written, un-put-downable. For me this just shades Gemmels Troy trilogy.

Not great but more than passable
I've been reading books about Greek Mythology, when I find them, for 50 years, so I'm probably a harder taskmaster than most. Read more

It's a decent book, but not the best in the genre...
Maybe I'm biased, but the writing style and character development of this book is quite poor. I say maybe I'm biased having read David Gemmel's (may he RIP) masterful Troy Trilogy,... Read more
