Purchased Kilrock Gel to resolve prior home owner's neglect of the 3 toilets in the home. The worst was a solid 'blanket' of brown calcium from the water line right through the bend with no sign of the white toilet surface to be seen below the water.

A warning on the label read 'Do not use on marble or enamel surfaces' & as most toilets are made of vitreous porcelain (aka porcelain enamel) I expected the product may do more harm than good. But after a 10 minute spot-test on rear/exterior surface, the toilet remained unharmed & shiny where gel was applied.

Next, the water was removed from the u-bend of the worst affected toilet & fully dried. The gel was then applied to the entire affected surface & did not drip, but the scale did not provide a smooth surface that would cause the gel to drip anyway. After leaving the gel to do it's thing for 10 minutes and seeing no visible change I then used a sponge to rub the treated area and the scaling just fractured away from the toilet surface without physical effort. Following a flush, I would estimate that there was no more than 10 percent of the scale remaining and a repeat of the process shifted the remaining build-up leaving the toilet u-bend shiny white. 1 toilet down - 2 to go.

This stuff is very like the product I use to descale my plastic kettle, but more gloopy. Rather like the old Gloy, in fact! You unscrew the cap, which has a stubby brush attached. Wipe the stuff around tricky places, eg the tip of a tap which has limescale on, leave it for 20 mins or so, rinse off and presto! no more limescale. Also great around the seating of taps or the edges of plugholes. Be careful with enamel, but it is ok on stainless steel, plastic and ceramic.

I used to buy this product through the Lakeland catalogues but was surprised it is no longer available. Kilrock really does the job,the brush gets in all the awkward places and its consistency is good and thick so sticks to all the stubborn lime scale, especially around taps and without damaging my wooden worktop. I also use it around my stainless steel kettle lid,I don't leave it on for long and so far it hasn't discoloured.
I have brought all sorts of de scalers over the years but this is the best.

I live in an area where the water is very hard. This has proved to be an excellant product for getting rid of chalk scale build up.

I bought this allegedly non-drip gel specifically to deal with limescale build-up on my tall kitchen tap, thinking that it would be more effective than my usual (Limelight) gel de-scaler which, whilst thick and gloopy, drips off the end of the tap before it finishes its work. Unfortunately this product also drips, and, being a less gloopy consistency than the other one, it drips off even faster and so is less effective. Even on flat surfaces I found it took more attempts to remove limescale than the Limelight.

I presume this only works on minimal levels of scaling. I tried it on scale built up on a shower screen and it seemed to have little or no effect despite numerous applications.

Good for pasting on the taps in the shower as it wont slip off, And you can paste it on the underside with no problem.
Rinses off easy too.
