From the author of Shetland and Vera

Gus Lynch is directing the Youth Theatre through a rehearsal. The cast is in place but the female lead, Gabriella Paston, is missing. Later that evening her body is discovered in the boot of Gus’s car. Detective Inspector Stephen Ramsay and Sergeant Gordon Hunter are assigned to head the murder enquiry.

Meanwhile violence is escalating on the Starling Farm Estate as police battle to contain the latest outbreak of joyriding. Is the death of Gabriella connected to the events at Starling Farm? When another death occurs, investigations suggest a possible link. Ramsay realises what could have provoked someone to kill . . . and kill again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great one..... 12 Aug 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Ann Cleeves's writing is simple but entrancing, taking you slowly into her world and the thinking of her detective - Inspector Ramsey. He always doubts his abilities but he always gets there - this time complicated by a little love interest from the past..... Will the flame re-ignite - I must read the next in this series to find out I guess...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read! 3 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this series by accident and read them all, one after the other. Killjoy (as are the rest) is an intelligent story, easy to read and you care about the characters and adore Ramsey!
A great read, I recommend it!
These books have inspired me to visit Northumberland next summer!

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not her usual standard 12 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've become so used to a consistently high standard from Ann Cleeves that this was a disappointment. There are typos and other kinds of errors; there's too much convoluted explication and the plot is not convincing Giving it three stars is a stretch--I almost went down to two.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read 28 Jan 2014

At first I wasn't keen on Inspector Ramsay but by Killjoy the fourth book in the series I warmed to the character.
As always with Ann Cleeves well written, authentic settings, lots of false trails & a twist or two before the conclusion.
An excellent read

Ok but not riveting. The characters were outlined well but not in depth. I enjoyed this book which was quick to read.
