Death Angel: One of the most underrated bands EVER! Talented musicians and masterful songwriters - at their peak at least equal to Metallica- and certainly heavier!! Also in Rob Cavestany they possess one of the single most gifted individuals to emerge from the 1980's Thrash Metal Bay Area Scene - this guy is a SERIOUS player - acoustic, rhythm and lead, Cavestany delivers, crunchy riffs blended with some of the tastiest & most melodic lead breaks around!! Absoluteley bitchin' guitar tone on rhythm and all the feel of a Tony Iommi on the leads! Factor in a tight as hell and inventive rhythm section in Andy Galeon (Drums) and Dennis Pepa (Bass Guitar) and the Halford/Dickinson/Dianno style vocals of Mark Osegueda - and solid Rhythm guitar from Ted Aguilar to boot, and you have pound for pound as good a Thrash Metal band as anything going!
This is genuine Thrash with a modern edge and a healthy influence of The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal! This band has always stated their influences- Maiden, Metallica, Priest,Motorhead - Lets hear it for the old school. In fact, many of the guitar solos here recall the work of Murray & Smith from Iron Maiden's earliest albums (Killers!)
There is also a definite Hardcore Metal/Punk influence ala Suicidal Tendencies/The Exploited/Biohazard running through all this.
The only minor negative is that the snare drum doesn't sound as full as might be expected for a modern album & occasionally struggles in the mix -This doesnt take anything away from the furious drum work itself and is compensated by the raw guitar tone and razor sharp vocals. Bass guitar is high in the mix and punkish - Lemmy would definiteley approve!
Best tracks: When Words Collide, Resurrection Machine, The Noose.

Death Angel are a very underrated thrash metal band, this is my first album off theirs i first heard 'em off metalhammer the song 5 Steps Of Freedom i got this cause i couldnt find any off their albums, they are an amazing band. The albums starts of brilliant with the killer song Lord Of hate which too be honest no one should and the moneyis worth it just for that riff. The other wicked tracks are Dethroned, Carnival Justice (what a solo), God V.S God & Ressurection Machine. This album is brilliant if you're a thrash metal fan than buy this you're bound to love it.

while not an all out thrash album, there are some fast songs on here along with some old school metal flurries.with less of a punk sound than art of dying. all round excellent album
