Product Description

Success can never be guaranteed in every case Alexandra Cooper prosecutes, but for once the odds are with her; she is able to put away a serial rapist for a crime he committed over twenty years previously.

Outside the courtroom another predator is at large. His first victim was a call-girl and it seems as though detectives need to look amongst her clients for the killer - but the discovery of other corpses, the modus operandi remarkably similar to the first, turns the investigation into a hunt for a viciously sadistic murderer.

A departure from form 19 Oct 2008
By SuzieB
Format:Paperback
I love Linda Fairstein and am disappointed in her latest novel. It's still a cut above many writers in this genre and has, as ever, a compelling story line. But, there's far too much historical stuff about NYC and not enough about the characters we know and love, Mike, Mercer and of course the heroine, Alex Cooper. The premise is promising from the outset and I was still gripped, but unlike previous novels there's not nearly enough about the central characters, the victims or the perpetrator. So if you're a Fairstein fan, you'll undoubtedly want to read this, but I suspect you will be a little disappointed.

I love Linds Fairstein's novels, the stories always appear life-like and real and this novel is no different. Alex Cooper is a New York sex crimes prosecutor (Linda Fairstein was the ADA for sex crimes in Manhattan before retiring to continue her writing)who works tirelessly to bring justice to those who are victims of sex crimes. she works hand in hand with the two other main characters Chapman - New York homicide detective and Mercer - a detective with the Special Victims Unit. The novels full of interesting facts about New York and the legal system there. I often have to remind myself that these are novels as they read as if they were taken straight out of the authors past cases(which is not the case) This is the 8th novel in the series which in involves a cold case which can now be closed with the introduction of DNA and a series of murders which leads all three characters to the dark unfamiliar islands surrounding the Manhattan area to help catch equally dark perpetrator.

Disappointing 18 Feb 2008
Format:Hardcover
Having read all the previous Alexandra Cooper thrillers I eagerly anticipated this new one.
I was however bitterly disappointed to discover that about one third of the book was given over to both historical and geographical facts about New York.
Although this might be interesting in a different context it is entirely superfluous in a work of fiction.
It as if the author is saying "look how clever I am researching all these facts".
