5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Suspense with Family Secrets and NASCAR 7 Feb 2005
By Dr. Edward Dow - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is my third book by Roxanne St. Claire and she did not disappoint!

I was riveted to the story of Celeste and Beau. The plot had multiple layers bringing in the family secret tied to Beau's need for Celeste and Celeste's need to understand where she came from. Celeste's escape from her debutante upbringing, three failed engagements and sham of a father brings her to the "redneck" world of colorful characters within the NASCAR circuit. The reader is drawn into this world through Celeste, taking the journey of her self discovery while being drawn into the steamy romance ignited by the characters' powerful chemistry.

In addition, if you haven't read French Twist or Tropical Getaway, I urge you to do so ASAP! Both are excellent romantic suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zoom, Zoom 24 Jan 2005
By Marilyn Puett - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When bad boy racing legend Beau Lansing shows up in NYC and personally requests her as a guide at the Guggenheim, socialite Celeste Bennett knows that something's up. Before long, she finds out that Beau knows the secret she's kept since she was a teenager. Beau's mentor, Travis Chastaine, is dying and only Celeste can save his life. And now Beau must convince Celeste to make the sacrifice necessary to do so. He asks her to donate a kidney for Travis. But before she'll consider it, Celeste wants to learn more about the man who fathered her and then took a huge pay-off to disappear from her life. She takes a position with Chastaine Motorsports, working incognito as a sponsor liaison. Celeste becomes Cece, Beau becomes enamored of this woman who's his total opposite and they both become very concerned when someone threatens her. Roxanne St. Claire is living up to last year's "Publisher's Weekly" prediction that she would be one of the next big names in writing. She blends NASCAR, high society, romance and suspense and then runs flat-out across the finish line for a checkered flag.

5.0 out of 5 stars A race from start to finish! 29 Jan 2005
By Lauren K. - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book roars right out of the gate with nonstop adventure. I've never read a NASCAR romance but after this, I'm tempted to go to a race. Ooooh are all drives like Beau Lansing? I wanna be a Beau Babe!

Heroine Celeste (Cece) is a wonderful fish out of water in the NASCAR world and her relationship with Beau really heats up the track. The mystery kept me wondering, the relationship kept me turning pages, and the love scenes..well, wow!

For a fast thrill ride, grab Killer Curves the minute you see it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great romance with a NASCAR backdrop 9 Jan 2006
By Tracy Vest - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When NASCAR bad boy Beau Lansing pays a visit to perennially engaged New York debutante Celeste Monroe, she is worried that he might be aware that her birth father is racing legend Travis Chastain. Imagine her shock when he not only drops that bomb on her, but requests that she travel to Florida to meet the man who abandoned her at birth so she can donate a kidney to save his life. But eas Travis really given a choice?

Celeste decides that she first wants to get to know Travis, so she travels down to Daytona to take a job with Team Chastain. She is not real impressed with Travis when she first meets him, and he thinks that she is a distraction to Beau, who is fighting demons of his own. They pose as an engaged couple to thwart romantic entanglements with a sponsor's wife, to disastrous results.

Someone wants to keep Celeste's parentage a secret, and is willing to do almost anything to insure it stays that way, even if it includes harming Celeste. Soon she finds her growing attraction to Beau being reciprocated, but is it because he wants her kidney or her heart?

The novel has just enough humor, tenderness, and sizzle to keep the reader hooked. I am looking forward to reading addition novels by St. Claire.

4.0 out of 5 stars entertaining contemporary romance 25 Jan 2005
By Harriet Klausner - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Guggenheim Museum volunteer docent Celeste Bennett escorts rich patrons on private tours. However, her clam world is shattered when NASCAR champion Beau "Lightning Bolt" Lansing specifically asks for her to serve as his guide because no one ever name requested her before. When she confronts him on why her, Beau explains he wants her to donate a kidney to save the life of her biological father NASCAR legend Travis Chastaine. She wants nothing to do with the man who deserted her pregnant mother before she was born.

Beau cannot understand why she would refuse as he sees Travis as a kindhearted father figure. He persuades Celeste to at least learn first hand that Travis is not the irresponsible SOB she thinks he is. Her condition is to work undercover at Chastaine Motorsports, which Beau agrees to help her accomplish. As they argue over Travis' merits, Beau and Celeste fall in love; neither wants the deep feelings as he enjoys "Beau Babes" and she has broken three engagements because she has doubts about relationships.

This entertaining contemporary romance is at its best when Beau defends his beloved mentor while Celeste judges her sire as lacking. As they battle over Travis, fans get insight into the motives of this pair as the child makes the adult loud and clear in this fine tale. A subplot involving a crazy person with homicidal intent adds suspense but that also feels like an unnecessary hairpin turn to a story line that moves on full cylinders from the start to the finish line.
