As a long time fan of Nitzer Ebb, I was delighted to see Douglas McCarthy return to making music after an agonizingly long "hiatus." I'd enjoyed his guest vocals on many tracks by various EBM/electro/techno/industrial acts, but was really missing him. In 2004, he reappeared working with Terence Fixmer as Fixmer/McCarthy, and seems to have decided to give music another go. The F/M project yielded two excellent CDs, Between the Devil in 2004 and Into the Night in 2008, during which time McCarthy was also busy with new Nitzer Ebb and touring, which led to the release of NE's Industrial Complex in 2010. As much as I had loved the previous NE releases, Industrial Complex blew my mind. So, when I heard McCarthy had a solo album in the works, I waited with bated breath, salivating, so to speak, to see what would come...and this CD, "Kill Your Friends," not only did not disappoint, but I cannot stop playing it. I purchased the digital version first, but the physical copy contains 4 songs not on the digital release, so if you are a real fan, get the CD if at all possible. There's not even a so-so song on this disc! They're ALL killer. It is amazing to listen to this and see just how much McCarthy has evolved as a songwriter and vocalist. Yes, I loved Nitzer Ebb's pounding repetitive beats and chanted (or shouted) vocals, but McCarthy is a truly great singer and songwriter and on this CD that is on full display. These songs are sexy, menacing, danceable, thought provoking, and incredible. This CD is a favorite, not just currently, but period. I own thousands, yet I go back for this one over and over and over. If you are a fan of Nitzer Ebb, McCarthy, the genre in general, any or all of those, BUY THIS ALBUM!
