4.0 out of 5 stars Dont Kill Your Friends 23 July 2013

Very nice album of Nitzer Ebb's Doug. Its a different work comparing with Nitzer albums, a little soft, more dancing beats, but very well produced e so many nice sounds choices. Mark Bell (Bjork, Depeche Mode) must have given that dance touch to the project. My Favs tracks "Hey" and "Move on".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! 24 Mar 2013

This is really great music from the Nitzer Ebb front man. Great electro-industrial beats and catchy hooks delivered with his classic Sheffield accent make for a very listenable album. I wish there were more original tracks and fewer remixes, but even the remixes on here bring original spins to these already original songs. A definite must-have for any industrial/electro fan!
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, excellent, excellent... 7 May 2014

As a long time fan of Nitzer Ebb, I was delighted to see Douglas McCarthy return to making music after an agonizingly long "hiatus." I'd enjoyed his guest vocals on many tracks by various EBM/electro/techno/industrial acts, but was really missing him. In 2004, he reappeared working with Terence Fixmer as Fixmer/McCarthy, and seems to have decided to give music another go. The F/M project yielded two excellent CDs, Between the Devil in 2004 and Into the Night in 2008, during which time McCarthy was also busy with new Nitzer Ebb and touring, which led to the release of NE's Industrial Complex in 2010. As much as I had loved the previous NE releases, Industrial Complex blew my mind. So, when I heard McCarthy had a solo album in the works, I waited with bated breath, salivating, so to speak, to see what would come...and this CD, "Kill Your Friends," not only did not disappoint, but I cannot stop playing it. I purchased the digital version first, but the physical copy contains 4 songs not on the digital release, so if you are a real fan, get the CD if at all possible. There's not even a so-so song on this disc! They're ALL killer. It is amazing to listen to this and see just how much McCarthy has evolved as a songwriter and vocalist. Yes, I loved Nitzer Ebb's pounding repetitive beats and chanted (or shouted) vocals, but McCarthy is a truly great singer and songwriter and on this CD that is on full display. These songs are sexy, menacing, danceable, thought provoking, and incredible. This CD is a favorite, not just currently, but period. I own thousands, yet I go back for this one over and over and over. If you are a fan of Nitzer Ebb, McCarthy, the genre in general, any or all of those, BUY THIS ALBUM!
4.0 out of 5 stars A distinct evolution in sound, with callbacks to old school Ebb 19 Nov 2013

I am not sure why the track listing for the mp3 download is different from that of the CD edition. That said, I purchased this album by download from amazon and am quite satisfied with it. I am a longtime fan of Harris and McCarthy's work as Nitzer Ebb, and, after having had the privilege of seeing a live solo performance by Douglas J McCarthy (with Cyrusrex on keys) opening for Cold Cave (another brilliant and highly recommended act) I decided to purchase this album. The electro-industrial beats and loud, proclamatory vocals are classic Douglas McCarthy. The content is a little more personal and introspective than the loud, abrasive, propaganda-like slogans of classic Ebb lyrics, but this album is still not without a certain defining edge - though certainly this album is fixated more on clubby, occasionally poppy adult angst than the fierce, industrial weirdness of yore, but it proves a good listen nonetheless. Highly recommended for longtime fans of Douglas McCarthy's work in Fixmer/McCarthy and Nitzer Ebb.
