Book Description

7 Feb 2012
For months, Mitch Rapp has been steadily working his way through a list of the men responsible for the slaughter of 270 civilians including his own girlfriend in the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing - bullet by bullet. His next target - a Libyan diplomat - should be easy. Prone to drink and currently in Paris without a bodyguard, Rapp quickly tracks the man down and sends a bullet into his skull while he's sleeping. But in the split second it takes the bullet to leave the silenced pistol, everything changes. The door to the hotel room is kicked open and gunfire erupts all around Rapp. When the news breaks that Libya's Oil Minister has been killed along with three innocent civilians and four unidentified men, the French authorities are certain that the gunman is wounded and still on the loose in Paris. As the finger-pointing begins, Rapp's handlers have only one choice - deny any responsibility for the incident and race to do damage control. Rapp has become a liability, and he must not be taken alive by the French authorities. But alone in Paris, on the run from the authorities and from his own employers, Mitch Rapp must prepare to fight for his life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A page turner 22 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
One thing for sure is that I like books that keep me on the edge. Kill Shot is one of them. Political thrillers in particular give me the feeling that I am reading something real, which adds to the excitement. More so when we have a character like Mitch Rapp, who had he not been on a right cause, would be a sociopath for all we know. The characterization in this story is great; and so too is the plot and the setting. Mitch Rapp reminds me of Gavin, a fascinating character found in Triple Agent Double Cross. The interesting thing about thrillers like these is that the international coating of the stories give them a rich feel and broadness that I love. I like stories with a world outlook.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needed more tension 9 Feb 2012
By Julia Flyte TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the the second prequel in the Mitch Rapp series, following on from American Assassin. That book was about Rapp's recruitment and training to become a clandestine assassin for the CIA. When this story kicks off, he is about to eliminate another US target, a Libyan terrorist who is visiting Paris. He breaks into the man's room and pumps a bullet into him as he sleeps. But almost immediately he realises that he's walked into a trap and that a team is lying in wait to assassinate him. Rapp is wounded in the ensuing gunfire but manages to escape. His orders are now to report in to the CIA, but not knowing who he can trust, he goes underground.

I was looking forward to reading this book, but I feel like it was just...okay. Not terrible, perfectly enjoyable, but lacking that relentless "go forward" momentum that keeps you wanting to turn the pages until the small hours. Somehow, Rapp's situation just never felt desperate enough. The tension wasn't really there. Whilst I enjoyed reading about how he outsmarts those superior to him, I never really had any doubt about how things would resolve themselves. Plus the ending is seriously super silly. If you plucked it off my bookshelf and asked me if it was worth reading, I'd probably just shrug - you could do better, you could do worse. Ultimately it's about as forgettable as its very generic title.

Having said that, I still think Rapp is a great character and I like the thought that goes into the way that he operates. I also really liked the french female detective who's tasked with investigating the hotel shooting spree. She makes a terrific, take-no-crap individual.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thriller Fun for the Reader 21 Mar 2012
By Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
If you like a thriller that brings espionage, double dealing and one of the world's best assassin's to the fore, then you're going to love this new Vince Flynn thriller. The story is fast moving, the characters intriguing and to be honest whilst there are some flaws, I tended to ignore them as I sat back and let the tale wend its merry way through my imagination.

The writing is crisp, the prose decent and when you add to the mix the authors ability to keep you firmly within his grasp then the reader is in for a real treat. Finally add this an author who knows how to add nuances within the characters psyche which when backed with the spy worlds double dealing and all in you know that the reader is in for a treat.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing 8 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've read quite a few of the Rapp novels. I didn't enjoy this one though. Rapp tells his girlfriend that he'll email her his location in Paris. How, exactly? Pan Am 103 was back in '88. Give Rapp a couple years to get himself trained up, and you're talking early 90s. So again, how is Rapp going to email his girlfriend his location in Paris? Nip into a cyber cafe? Whip out his iPhone? She turned up at his hotel room in the morning too. So how exactly did she know where to find him? If someone has an explanation, please post it up here. Thanks.

3.0 out of 5 stars My 1st Mitch Rapp Thriller 7 Mar 2012
Format:Paperback
Kill Shot suffers the unenviable task of try to be all things to all people. It needs to please all the existing Mitch Rapp fans out there, as this is the twelfth book in the series I imagine that there are quite a few, as well as draw in new potential readers. I fall squarely into the second category. I've not read any of the other books, including the 1st prequel novel that precedes Kill Shot, so I'm blissfully ignorant of everything that has happened before and after the events that occur here. The good news, though, is that as this novel acts is a prequel to most of the previous eleven books it does actually serve as quite a good introduction to the murky life of a CIA sanctioned assassin.

The clandestine nature of espionage and assassination feature as a backdrop to the novel's main narrative. The vast majority of the characters that the reader meets are directly involved in spying for their various governments, and it becomes obvious quite early on that all of them have what can only be described as `trust issues'. There are plenty of shady political machinations that will keep any reader's attention.

At this early point in his career Mitch Rapp is driven by his desire for revenge. Events in his past fuel his anger toward all forms of terrorism. When it comes to his work he is like a machine, he lets nothing and no one stand in his way. He will complete his objectives at all costs.

There aren't many moments in the novel where the reader gets to see Rapp's human side, and I have to admit, I am a bit unsure about this choice. I can appreciate his motivations when it comes to his chosen profession but I didn't empathise with him as much as I would have liked. In fairness, this decision may be entirely deliberate on the author's part.

3.0 out of 5 stars Rather formulaic
This is the 7th novel in this series and I became rather bored with the formula. Olts of killing and once again the hero falling foul of the establishment.
