Product Description

Product Description

Mount Kilimanjaro is the African continent’s highest mountain and the world’s tallest freestanding mountain. It is a geological wonder, formed, sculpted, and molded by the natural forces of volcanic fire and glacial ice. At 19,340 feet (5,895 metres) high, Kilimanjaro towers above the Great Rift Valley and lies 3 degrees south of the Equator, on the northern border of Tanzania, close to southeast Kenya. Kilimanjaro is an accessible mountain that one can climb without the help of any technical equipment. The ascent starts from the cultivated lower slopes with dry blistering heat, through a lush, wet rainforest jungle, into heath and moorland zones, all the way up to the desolate alpine desert landscape and the steep, exposed arctic summit area, where one will experience breathtaking views of the legendary snows of Kilimanjaro. Moushabeck and Schulz invite you along as they explore and climb Mount Kilimanjaro. In this book they capture the essence of this majestic mountain with over 200 full-colour photographs and an engaging and entertaining narrative that smoothly ties together personal observations with the mountain’s history, its people, and its ecology.

I bought this book a couple of weeks after returning from a successful ascent of Kilimanjaro. It is well written and contains all the excellent photographs I failed to capture on my trip. The description of the climb, the difficulties encountered and the elation of achieving the summit are covered in great detail. This book is excellent value for money and I would recommend it to anyone contemplating the trip.

This book, gives the reader the opportunity to experience the hopes and concerns of a group of trekkers hoping to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. As someone who is hoping to do this trip in the future,I found the images and text very informative.
The pictures are of a high quality, and give the reader an insight into the beauty and magnitude of this incredible place.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this well priced book to anyone who is considering this climb in the future.

I ordered this book for my partner as we both climbed Kilimanjaro for charity in December last year and also my partner is currently doing a photography course.

The book provides excellent memories of the climb and would also be great to purchase before attempting the summit.
If I had any criticism I would say the photographs are slightly predictable and I was expecting slightly more from them.

All in all though a great account of Kilimanjaro and what to expect.
