Book Description

Nov 1999
A place where love and war collide--and she would be possessed by the Scottish chieftain they called . . . barbarian

Enter a world of breathtaking romance and rugged adventure. Enter the world of Kilgannon--an unforgettable story of love and treachery in a great Scottish clan. Kathleen Givens's magnificent novel sweeps from Queen Anne's London to the Highland wilderness . . . and into the hearts of one proud, passionate family: the MacGannons of . . . Kilgannon.

Mary Lowell wasn't interested in marriage despite her aunt's determination to find her a husband by the end of the London Season. Then Alex MacGannon, Earl of Kilgannon, strode into the ballroom and commanded her heart. They called him a barbarian, a rough-hewn Scot--chieftain of clan MacGannon. They said no woman could hold him, as he set sail on the high seas. But Alex returned to claim Mary Lowell as his own, to carry her off to Scotland, to his magnificent ancestral castle, Kilgannon. And as the Highlands are torn by rebellion, Mary will find passion--and danger--in the rugged land she would now call home.

Watch for the next book in the magnificent Kilgannon saga: The Wild Rose of Kilgannon, coming in November 1999 from Dell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a romance for the faint-hearted! 1 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Wow, was this a surprise . . . At long last, an historical romance that is more than a fluffy, feel-good story. Ms. Givens beautifully researched tale of the romance between Mary, an English socialite, and Alex MacGannon, the Earl of Kilgannon, a West Highland laird. The beginning of the tale seems at first to be a bit slow, as an enormous cast of characters is introduced. However, as I've mentioned, this is no light read. It is a huge story, and well worth seeing through to the end. The romance which blossoms between Mary and Alex is unforgettable, though I would hesitate to recommend this book to just anyone. This is not your garden variety kiss and fight romance. It is a rich, lush love story filled with humour, wit, and a liberal dose of history. You will learn much between the covers of this book. For those brave enough to select Kilgannon, I would recommend buying both this and its sequel, The Wild Rose of Kilgannon, and reading them back to back. If, as I sat curled up in an armchair littered with used tissues, I had been required to wait for the sequel to this book, I think I may have sought Ms. Givens out and done her serious harm!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a brilliant book! 23 Aug 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a fantastic book! The developing relationship between Alex and Mary is both believable and amusing. The descriptions of Kilgannon were truely wonderful - if only there were such a romantic place. This is one of my all time favourite books and I can`t wait to read the sequel The Wild Rose of Kilgannon.

1.0 out of 5 stars not one for me - bit too "romancy" 16 May 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
bought this as i love diana gabaldons time travel series and a revwier had written ths was similar. Its not a bad book - juts a bit too lightwieght and flowery romance for me. I like my romances to have some edge and this didn't. won't re read so it won't join my librabry but be passed on to someone who may enjoy it more.
