United Kingdom released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: LANGUAGES: Spanish ( Dolby Digital Stereo ), English ( Subtitles ), ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN (1.78:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast/Crew Interview(s), Interactive Menu, Trailer(s), SYNOPSIS: Spanish director Pedro Almodovar returns to his recurring framework of offbeat sexuality and death with this colorful comedy. Kika (Veronica Forque) is a Madrid makeup artist who falls in love with Ramon (Alex Casanovas), a dead man whose face Kika is hired to prepare for a funeral. Kika's attraction resurrects Ramon, and the two begin cohabiting. Kika becomes embroiled in a pair of criminal schemes, one involving her maid Juana (Rossy De Palma) and Juana's amorous, retarded brother Pablo (Santiago Lajusticia), the other involving Ramon's father, Nicholas (Peter Coyote). After Kika is raped by Pablo, she learns the incident was videotaped by Ramon, the footage ending up on a tabloid television program hosted by Andrea Scarface (Victoria Abril). Kika and Ramon split, but the latter discovers his father's complicity in the demise of his mother, leading to a violent confrontation. Because of Almodovar's humorous treatment of the film's rape, Kika was his third feature in a row that resulted in critical accusations of misogyny and exploitation. His subsequent material became more dramatic and less tinged with black humor. SCREENED/AWARDED AT: Goya Awards, ...Kika (UK Edition).

From Pedro Almodovar, comes the story of Kika, a lively make-up artist involved with a brooding American writer, Nicholas and his narcoleptic son Ramon. Ramon is nice enough, but he keeps passing out and can only get turned-on when he has a camera in his hand. Nicholas has some thoroughly unpleasant nocturnal activities too.....
This bizarre domestic situation is cast into further turmoil when poor Kika is raped by a lencherous escaped convict and th entire event is captured on film, courtest of 'Scarface', the flamboyant presenter of a sick TV show.
As if that was not enough, porn stars, serial killers, transsexuals, lesbian maids, voyeuristic ghouls and incredible costumes by Gaultier and Versace, all pop up at various points, combining to make this film extremely colourful and exciting.

ALMODOVAR has not lost his intellectually wicked touch in 25 years at all for a surreal feel to the opposite sex and his movies discover a delightful feline edge to women in a universallanguage -i love all his movies but i really enjoyed kika .matador -volver ,women on verge of a nervous breakdown -which show the fierce violent side of the feminine spirit with a wicked humour which is challenging our ideas of what constitutes the normal -in almodovars best works the paranormal mixes with normal as in virtual reality to creat a subconcious mystery which emerges both as a buoyant metaphor for the frail sex but also show their infinite resilience in a fragile manner where the human fear of mortality is replaced with a joy of existence even if it just a momentary feeling that is fleeting through our subconcious itself ,
i suppose that is what might be defined as great art as in almodovars timeless modern parables reflect which are truly not restricted by any form itself ,

kika is a modern spanish woman who lives and loves men in all forms in barcelona and she shares that th all women including her cheating girlfriends who are loving the same men behind her back as well aS her lesbian maid who has a moustache and a rapist serial killer convicted brother who is a porn movie superstar to boot .
this is a crazy but really energetic romp which is totally blasphemous and absolutely true to the bipartisan feminine sex in an iconic kika.
almodovar creates one of the most curiously original and fascinating female characters in this rather mock spoof of female sexual emancipation .
in retrospect this is politically incorrect as it ridicules and mocks every value and tradition as well as bourgeois morality with its philandering men and women who are totally eccentric to be true yet individually surreal in texture .
kika though is a television makeup artist with very few scruples other then her sexual and alcoholic appetites and celebrates her love of male flesh by simultaneously indulging in a public and a clandestine affair with two brothers who inhabit the apartments above each other .
kika has no complexes such as guilt or moral dilemmas as an innocently naive nymphomaniac but the men are much depraved and lecherous as well as come out morally bankrupt as the two brothers who are trying to sort out their past family problems created by the sudden death of their mother .
kika here could be the mother figure for both the men who are aware she is having affairs with then both while they are indulging in the same with multiple other females all of whom seem to know each other and make this rather a guilty incestuous pleasure .
even more compelling then kika is the character of her lesbian house-maid who has a psychopathic brother convicted for rape and murder who also happens to be a porn star with a voracious sexual appetite where he has indulged in intercourse with every animal and human being he has ever encountered .

almodovar inserts this benign sex monster in a catholic religious procession of penance from where he successfully escapes to enter kikas apartment and ask for his sisters assistance who is rather a delightfully non conscientious house maid .
what ensues is a delightful sex and blood orgy where nothing is sacred and possibly the best satire i have seen from the pen of almodovar in a creative outburst which is hugely kinky and fascinating in every perspective .
the narrative is mocking all social values and will delight cinema libertines who exult in sinfully entertaining cinema WITH voyeurs ,masochists ,rapists, sexual exhibitionists ,psychopathic imbeciles and murderers running amok and the tone is so gleefully satirical that i was totally riveted .
this is sexually explicit and profane and not for the moral puritans or politically correct right wing hypocrites .
i think it is a memorable tribute by almodovar to the cause of feminine liberation and emancipation in flesh and spirit too and it fascinates in every frame with its fantasy mix and reality that are concocted as a great sex comedy and social satire .
the fact it ,makes its women more real then any i have come across as the rather slightly perverted ,unhinged creatures makes it truly charming .
