Everything you need to get started is included in the box, including a remote control, batteries and a SCART lead. At its simplest, getting started involves connecting the SCART lead to both the DVD player and the television, plugging in and switching on. There are a variety of sockets on the back of the player to accommodate more involved setups. These include both a coaxial and optical digital audio out, for passing a Dolby Digital or DTS audio stream through to separate audio decoders/amplifiers. There are also stereo audio output jacks, a composite video out, S-VHS (S-Video) out and a single SCART socket.
We found most of the default settings of the player to be just right, but it is worth noting a couple of changes that made a noticeable difference on our test setup. The default video out setting is SCART composite or Video. This provides maximum compatibility, but if your TV supports it, changing this setting to SCART RGB has a significant impact on the quality of picture output. We also found that turning up the volume on the DVD player to the maximum put it more in line with the TV channel output.
The menu controls are straightforward to follow and the remote control, while not exceptional, gets the job done simply. A range of features are accessible, including zoom, audio pitch control, virtual 3D surround, plus a whole lot more. The image and audio quality of the X8 is competent, if not outstanding and certainly well above the average typically seen in this price range. The player handled discs from multiple regions with aplomb. There was no need to enter any settings, or play with the remote. You simply enter a region two disc and it plays. Eject this and put in a region one disc and this also automatically plays. This was even the case with RCE (Region Code Enhanced) discs. The whole multi region process is handled transparently.
The Kiiro X8 DVD player combines good looks with a rich feature set, competent performance and multi-region playback. It lacks a second SCART socket, which can be useful if connecting multiple devices and there is no onboard Dolby Digital decoder. Other than this the player is hard to fault, especially at such a competitive price. --Jason Weston

Works as described. It arrived, I plugged it in to the mains, plugged in the supplied SCART lead, inserted a DVD and it started playing. Plays my US and UK DVDs, home created CDR and shop bought music CDs.The comment that another reviewer made about the volume level was true, but was easily fixed by upping the volume default setting on the DVD player and then using the TV as normal. The comments about connecting to TV sets from other reviewers I don't understand. Mine came with a SCART lead as advertised, I plugged it in to my SONY tv and it worked first time... The zoom function is great if you don't have a widescreen TV, 1.5 zoom fills the screen cutting off the edges. The fast forward/reverse at 2x 4x 8x 16x is faultless; I agree with the comments on the manual. It tells you how to do something but not what that does, or what result to expect...A great buy!

Great Value for Money !!,

I needed a simple DVD player as I am a beginner in this field. Saw the X8 and it was just the job. Being MultiRegional is great. No need to worry about buying from the US etc. Its slim design is great and easy set up manual. Just plug in the scart and of you go. Having a Widescreen TV helps although if you haven't got round to getting one the X8 accomodates.Only downside is not having the Dolby 5.1 sound integrated but this is overcome by the audio output on the back, for upgrade. A great buy. Go on treat yourself!!

Quality Player - Budget price,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiiro X8 Multi-region DVD Player (Electronics)
I was looking for a second player for my bedroom. I've got a chipped Toshiba SD210 with my main TV downstairs. I was looking for something as cheap as possible that was multi-region and came across this. I've been pleasantly surprised by the results.Multi-region is a breeze. Whatever disc you throw at it, it just plays, without the need for any messing about. It looks good, fairly slim and silver. It's built fairly solidly - certainly as well as the Toshiba. Picture quality isn't as good as the Toshiba, but then I paid nearly £100 more for that one at the time. It's decent quality - nothing to complain about. The remote is a bit cheap and nasty, but it's no big deal. There's only 1 scart socket, which wasn't a big deal for my needs but may be for some. Also, there's no Dolby Digital decoder. So what, is my response to that. It's got co-axial and optical audio outputs, so you just hook these up to a Dolby digital decoder and amplifier if you want 5.1. For the money, I can't give this anything but five stars.
