Setting up the DA-AV5 is straightforward. The manual supplied is a fairly poor translation into English, but despite this it is clearly labelled with what needs to go where and how to connect all the elements. There is also a guide to speaker placement to get the most out of your system. The power output of the system provides plenty of sound to fill a good-sized room without distortion. Decent lengths of speaker cable are supplied (2x3 m and 2x8 m) and these fix to soft-wired clips in the back of the speakers. This means it is simple to use extra lengths of wiring should you need to.
The bulk of connections are located on the rear of the subwoofer/amplifier. In addition to the aforementioned speaker connections, you have three audio inputs, an analogue left and right, plus two digital connections (1x Co-axial and 1x Optical). These enable you to hook up your speakers to a variety of sources, such as DVD player, VCR and satellite box at the same time. The Dolby Digital decoder will process a 5.1 digital stream from DVD, to give superb surround sound. There is also a Dolby Pro Logic decoder available, which provides a 4 channel "Dolby Stereo" surround from certain VHS recordings and satellite broadcasts. You can also set the system up for Theatre and Hall options to provide a virtual surround from a stereo signal.
The controls are simple to master, from either the centre speaker control panel, or the remote control. You can configure the volume of each speaker individually in conjunction with the test tone to generate an accurate surround soundstage based on your speaker position. You can then rely on the master volume to adjust them all in tandem. The Kiiro DA-AV5 Home Theatre System delivers a powerful and well-separated sound. It is simple to set up and use and offers exceptional value for money. --Nick Baxter

The best complete home theatre speaker system at this price,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kiiro DA-AV5 Home Theatre System (Electronics)
Based on the low price of this product, I believe that it is a must-buy for those who want a good quality system but are on a budget. You may have already seen products such as the Creative Labs Playworks Desktop Theatre 3500 Digital Speakers. These are, admittedly, lower priced, but just look at the difference in specification...If you had not found this system you could have found yourself paying hundreds more for a Home Cinema which is of similar power. Clarity on the system is amazing and sounds better than in a cinema, and this quality sound is sustained even at high volume, which in the case of the Kiiro, is very high! The sound will easily rumble through quite a large sized room, perfect for a lounge and when used with a DVD player, it sounds like the film has come to life. There are several inputs which enable multiple connections to both digital and analogue sources. Upon opening the box you will find more than enough speaker wire for even relatively large rooms and you will look back on your previous TV or HiFi speakers and laugh after hearing this pumping machine, which will make you the envy of your friends. Don't hesitate, buy it!

The Kiiro DA-AV5 out of the box,
This review is from: Kiiro DA-AV5 Home Theatre System (Electronics)
The short version is that I'm impressed with this system. It provides a pretty good one stop solution if you want to upgrade to surround sound without a lot of fuss or cost. The soundstage is good with pro-logic or dolby digital. The performance with CD's from the DVD player is also good. I'm a bit fussy with hifi and have used high end stuff for years. This does not compete with audiophile equipment but I don't want that with my telly. Longer version: Out of the box you get 4 passive satellite speakers, a subwoofer which holds the amps and a centre speaker built into a control unit. You get lots of connecting cables, including multi-strand speaker wire (loads better than the usual chewing gum stuff) and optical and coaxial digital phono type cables. You get a remote provided with batteries that you have to fit. It's in our 'family room' which is about 16 feet by 12 and the speaker cable is just about long enough. In 30 minutes I had been in the back of the video and DVD player to connect up the coaxial digital and stereo analogue connectors. I mounted the satellites in any old place -roughly 4 corners - and put the centre speaker on top of the TV. The subwoofer has to be within striking distance of the control unit because they are connected by a serial cable which is easy to fit. The remote is small and the text on it hard to read but it works fine and provides all the basic functions you need. The sound is very punchy and dynamic and the stereo soundstage is very convincing. The front/back effects are also pretty good. I was very impressed with the pro-logic off SKY TV on adverts and sport channels. BBC's songs of praise sounded good too. You get an immersing kind of sound that doesn't exactly put you there, but is richer and more interesting than boring old stereo. The dolby digital - what I really got it for - is very good too. Clear, great bass, great effects on kiddy DVD's or Notting Hill - all I've seen so far. Niggles: One of the satellites crackles at high volume and will be going back. The centre speaker rattles on top of the TV at moderate volume but is better at the side of the TV. The remote is so small and the writing on it small too that it is very hard to navigate. Build quality fair. I expected better. Conclusion: ...[the price]seems about the right price to pay - the Amazon price. Any more and you're in separates territory from richer sounds. If you want a low fuss solution, this could be it.

Brilliant Performance at a Brilliant Price,
By DG_O (UK) - See all my reviews

I bought this a few days ago and once I got everything switched on, I was absolutely blown away by the sound quality. I never expected such a huge increase in quality of sound from this system. When watching a DVD, the movie comes to life - I actually enjoy my DVD's a lot more with this sound system - that's how good it is. In terms of the speakers, they all look basic but don't be fooled by appearance - they pack a serious punch. I'm too scared to blast it at full volume in case my next door neighbour calls the cops - but the potential for blasting is there. The system is easy to set-up with an amazingly easy to understand manual. All-in-all, an extremely good piece of hardware with great performance at an unbelievable price. You could get ripped off by buying a more expensive system which doesn't even offer half the power of this system. So do yourself a favour and buy this - I dare you!
