My 10 year old daughter really enjoyed building the volcano out of a kind of cement mixture. It is pretty messy but that's half the fun. Once you've built the volcano it needs painting. The hard bit is waiting for it to set and dry. Erupting was easy and pretty hilarious. You need to have vinegar and food colouring to make it erupt and plenty of newspaper underneath to mop up the mess but everything else is provided. Can be used again and again and everything fits back in the box for storage. Would definitely buy for another child. A good value, educational and fun toy I would recommend for children over 8 years.

This kit is easy to assemble and the plaster of paris is smooth so you get a good, even finish ready to paint. I have reused mine many times by using a 35mm camera film canister to replace the part that you put your soda and vinegar in to get the eruption. Overall, easy and simple to use.

I bought this toy for my 7-year-old niece. She took it to school so they all could try it out. All the children loved it so did their teacher. I really recommend this toy and I like buying it as birthday present for other kids. With parental help I think younger children enjoy this kit as well. And for the price you can't go wrong.

I bought this for my 7 year old who was doing a school project on volcanoes. We made it together, very easy to do, clear instructions. My son enjoyed painting it and was very 'creative' with his colours. We managed to stick it onto a large piece of cardboard and created a little scene with houses and people running from the lava. Great fun.

This simple little kit was great fun for my 6 year old boy. It requires an adult to supervise, unless you want plaster stuck all over the house and down the drain. It includes plaster, a volcano shaped plastic mould and paints. It doesn't get a perfect 5 stars because the kit doesn't come with the chemicals that you need to make the volcano explode... you have to buy baking soda and vinegar/lemon juice separately.

Am I doing something wrong?

My 4 year old absolutely loved making the volcano, although it was much smaller than I expected. Instructions were easy to follow. How do you make it explode up high?

Baking Powder
Vinegar
Small bit of WUL for foam
Red food colouring for lava

I noticed someone mentioned Lemon juice???

The look of disppointment on my boys' face when it failed to errupt and just trickled out.

Any advice, we're stuck home with chicken pox!!

The volcano kit is brilliant and once you have made it and painted it, it is fantastic to make it erupt even the grown ups want to have a go, just let them watch. Really really good fun.
