"...the freshest, foulest and most open veined Libs history imaginable. Read it and creep." --Nme

Product Description

The extraordinary story of the most gifted yet nihilistic London band since The Sex Pistols is told. Kids in the Riot is written with the complete co-operation of the major players in the gloriously destructive ascent of The Libertines and documents the break-ins, break-ups, punch-ups and make-ups of the bands first two phenomenal years. The book is illustrated with photographs taken from the authors archive, compiled during many years as a friend of the band.

The Libertines 29 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
What a wonderfull book. I picked it up not being that much of a fan and not really knowing anything about them but having herd of them i was interested to learn more. The book is a brilliant account of what went on and how they collapsed. Such a heartbreaking, interesting, shocking story which at times will make you laugh. Such a talented band which i now agree are one of the best brittish bands. I very much enjoyed reading their story and hearing their input. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Absolutley brilliant

As a fan of the band since their Up the Bracket days, and as a fan of both Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles (especially their Shotter's Nation incarnation) I decided it was time to get some more knowledge on one of Britain's best recent bands. And while Kids in the Riot definitely delivers on this, it is far from the definitive book on the band, nor does it do a very professional job in telling their story. The problem is that the author, Pete Welsh, doesn't write a very compelling narrative; he is actually at his best when he lets the character's do the talking for him and at his worse when he inserts himself and his projects into the mix.
Absent is also any kind of detailed analysis of their music/lyrics, a staple in many rock biographies. What you get, is an insider's account of the band's formation and loads of information on the pubs and the clubs and the drugs and the tubs and the fights, and, well you get the picture. I can't even say Pete's descent into drugdom feels especially poignant because Welsh, like any good insider, is only impressed when the level of decadence and selfishness reaches astronomical levels.
All in all, it's a good read, but get ready to spend some more money when the definitive Libs biography comes out.

An Interesting Read 12 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
I brought this book hoping to learn a bit more about the band that I have adored for the past two years, I was very impressed.

The story of The Libertines is told from 1997 up to November 2004, a very emotive and heartbreaking story at that. The book tells the story from the points of view of those involved. Told mostly through quotes from interviews, the book shows how everybody mixed up in this tragic tale saw things.

Of course, the main focus is the steady rise of The Libertines and then the speedy downfall of the greatest and most nihilistic band since the Sex Pistols. The in-depth stories of band members and their friends show how truly heartbreaking the demise of The Libertines was.

If you want a real, intense and first hand story of how The Libertines fell from glory, look no further than this book. Of course, being a Libertines anorak I adored this book and will buy anything that will try and help me get a clearer view on how they really did break up. A must buy for all those who confess to falling in love with the greatest band of the 21st Century, Long Live The Libertines.
