Don't buy this for your children. Please. Spare them., 5 Jun 2005

I wouldn't let Clements review the back matter of a cereal box, netherless a movie. Plain and simple, without making a personal attack, his reviews are...well...more suited for fans of the (often cruel) Videohound books than Leonard Maltin. I don't approve of such meanness in adult movie guides, and I certainly don't approve of it in a book for children. Just because an adult who feels the need to talk down to kids with a holier-than-thou additude about certain films, doesn't mean those certain films that he's so quick to damn don't have any value at all. Kids, unlike adults, can find pleasure in flims that adults may find lacking. Deal with it. Kids and adults with imaginations and open minds are the target audience, not stuffy movie reviewers. A child can watch a film and decide for themselves if they like it or not, no matter what professional critics may say. There is more magic, to me, in the conclusions of a child than what Clements decides to stuff down their throat. (And really, I'd rather see a little girl enjoying herself watching the My Little Pony Movie (my personal childhood favorite, as I was horsecrazy), which Clements was probably the most cruel to out of any movie, than being bored stiff during the very long Fantasia, which Clements was quick to praise). And to advocate FAST-FORWARDING through movies...is just a sin. We don't need to treat all kids as if they have ADD and can't sit through an ordinary 70-80 minutes of film. How can a film be enjoyed if "the boring parts" - which usually help with the plot - are all cut out? Answer me that, Mr. Clements.
