This is incredible. It made me cry, but only because having read it, I know that had I been given this information and awareness at a much younger age, it might have saved me. That not having been the case, I'm at least able to help myself heal, and ensure that I do my best to nurture my baby-to-be so that they know they are loved, listened to, and strong. It might not be able to save us from the perils of our society, but it does a damn good job at trying, and if we all gave our children these building blocks with which to found themselves, then the world would be a better place.

Very worth buying, and reading. Definitely going to be implemented. Thank you so much, KidPower.

5.0 out of 5 stars A treasure trove of effective, positive safety skills 12 May 2012
By Amy Tiemann - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
"The Kidpower Book" is a must-have resource for parents, teachers and other caring adults. As an international nonprofit organization, Kidpower has taught personal safety skills to more than two million people worldwide, through their interactive personal safety workshops and other educational resources. Kidpower's positive, success-based approach to learning safety skills is both refreshing and effective. Research has validated the Kidpower teaching method as an evidence-based approach.

Incorporating Kidpower skills into my family's daily lives has helped me raise a child who is independent and prepared to explore the world with safety and confidence. Now all families can access this knowledge through "The Kidpower Book," a resource that is chock-full of practical safety skills and strategies, presented in a very accessible format. Topics include these and more: What Adults need to know about "People Safety" for kids; Building a foundation of emotional safety for young people; Five key self-protection strategies for preventing trouble; Protecting young people from bullying; Protecting children from sexual abuse; and Protecting kids from abduction and teaching stranger safety.

Kidpower empowers adults to teach these skills to kids in a way that is both effective and emotionally safe, not scary. This book is a treasure-trove of information and I am proud to give Kidpower my highest personal and professional recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book about kids/teens and personal safety! 24 April 2012
By Mom4Good - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is by far the most comprehensive book I've seen for adults wanting to help kids and teens learn age-appropriate personal safety skills. From stranger safety to sexual abuse prevention to bullying prevention, The Kidpower Book gives practical skills and answers. As a parent, I don't need any more scare stories, I need to know what I can DO to help my kids learn to be safe. The Kidpower Book gives me information in a way that makes me feel prepared, but not overwhelmed. It's written in clear language that's easy to understand and apply with my actual kids in everyday life. I haven't found anything else like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Using the book and the skills 10 July 2012
By SusanOJ - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
As both a parent and a school administrator, I have seen the strength of "Kidpower" at work. Not only would this book be a wonderful gift, it can also be used as the starting point for discussions at parent meetings. The stories in the book are excellent examples to be used in helping parents and others to understand and practice strategies that create an environment of confidence for children so that we can prevent the epidemic of bullying we are experiencing in our schools. My thanks to Ms. Van der Zant for writing this book and for her couragious leadership in the quest to protect all children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and helpful book! 7 Jun 2012
By G. Amanda - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been working with kids for over 10 years and this book is such an amazing resource! As an adult it helps me understand how I can talk to - and above all teach - kids about safety.
What I like about the book is it covers so many areas of the aspect of safety for kids...not only abuse but also bullying, strangers and emergencies.
It is all done in such a positive way, looking at how to prevent a lot of problems and also how to have better relationships with other people.
It is a very comprehensive guide that is easy to read and simple to implement.
I hope every adult who has a child in their life or who works with kids gets this book, reads it and helps kids everywhere be safer and happier!
