At 11, she and her family moved to Rainbow's End farm and game reserve, the subject of her acclaimed memoir, and she grew up surrounded by animals, including eight horses, two warthogs and a pet giraffe. After nearly a decade as golf correspondent to The Sunday Times, followed by a sojourn in the US, riding the tour buses of alt. country stars like Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle and the Dixie Chicks, she wrote the bestselling White Giraffe series. Dead Man's Cove, the first in her new mystery series about 11-year-old detective, Laura Marlin, won the 2011 Blue Peter Favourite Story and Book of the Year Awards.

This is the second Laura Marlin book.

( The first is called Dead Man's Cove (Laura Marlin Mysteries 1))

Laura is an orphan and in the first book is taken in by her mysterious, but kind, uncle.

She is a detective and when she grows up wants to do this as her job.

In this book she has won a holiday to the Caribbean BUT maybe that is too good to be true.

As with the first book this is an excellent adventure.

She must battle a secret gang, save her uncle and fight for her life. Along the way she also makes an unexpected friend.

This is a great series, the first book won the Blue Peter prize, and I think all children from 8 upwards will enjoy it.

Laura is brave and has had a difficult life but teaches us about friendship and honour. Two great qualities in anyone young or old.

Its also good that she is a girl who is tough and clever.

A great series.... GET READING THEM....

This book is a must have! It is soooo... gripping and makes you want to read more! This is the second book in the Laura Marlin series and it really has a good story, which is continued from the fist book - Dead Man's Cove. You can picture the whole story with the description and with every story there is a message for animal conservation. Everyone should read the series so far!

Amazing!!!

Format: Paperback
After all the excitement of her adventures during Dead Man's Cove, Laura Marlin is anxious to get away for a relaxing break. It seems that she might be in with a chance when the Fantasy Travel Company arrives in town in order to publicise a lucky draw to win a luxury cruise and a week's stay in Antigua. Laura buys a ticket for the draw and is delighted when, several days later, a limo pulls up to her door and she is informed that she is the lucky winner. Her uncle, Calvin Redfern, is less delighted at the prospect of having to drop everything and depart for the Caribbean at such short notice but, after a covert nocturnal meeting with a mysterious stranger in the local graveyard, he changes his mind and the two of them prepare to enjoy their luxury break.

Unfortunately, things turn out to be far less relaxing than they had hoped. Laura's best friend Tariq and her beloved husky Skye inadvertently end up stowing away on the cruise ship, while her Uncle Calvin suffers a fall that leaves him confined to her cabin for the duration of the voyage. When Uncle Calvin disappears and the sinister events onboard ship start to spiral out of control, Laura and Tariq must play a deadly game with their enemies. Thousands of miles from home, they must face pirates, a volcano and hungry sharks if they are to recover Uncle Calvin and find out just who is desperate to spoil Laura's dream vacation.

Kidnap in the Caribbean is Lauren St John's second Laura Marlin mystery and is an excellent follow-up to Dead Man's Cove. Laura and Tariq must once again face deadly danger armed with only the instructions of their favourite fictional detective and assisted by good-intentioned if rather accident-prone new friend Jimmy Gannet.

This is a brilliant book that focuses on spreading the awareness of endangered animals while also entertaining. It is written well and is easy to read but not at all boring! I literally couldn't put this book down and ended up spending a whole day just reading it! As a side note this book is educational because (although I'm highly interested in marine biology) I didn't know that some fish and chip shops sold shark!
