The alarms seems to work fine - where there's smoke there's beeps. However the design is not very intelligent and has two flaws:

1. When the alarm's on the escape light 'blinks' on and off which seems a bit stupid and were I trying to escape a fire in the dark certainly wouldn't be my choice of behaviour

2. (More annoying) when the hush function is activated the alarm beeps very loudly once a minute to remind you that it's still on hush. Whilst of course this helps remind you not to start any fires during the hush period, it's also a pain in the bum and if you can find another alarm that doesn't do so I'd recommend you get it!

Note this is a very sensitive smoke alarm. If you like well done toast, don't buy this product. Our toaster in the kitchen manages to set off this detector, located in our hallway at least once a week. Consequently, we go through the 2 x 9 volt batteries quite often.
