Product Description

Product Description

The Kidde KS901 is a battery-operated carbon monoxide (CO) alarm, and has the patented Nighthawk electrochemical CO sensor to help protect you and your family from the dangers of CO. When the Kidde KS901 unit is operating properly and hazardous CO levels are not detected, its green LED flashes every 30 seconds. In a CO emergency, the red LED pulses and an 85 db horn sounds at specific intervals until the CO threat is eliminated. Because it’s powered by AA batteries, the KS901 is able to provide continuous monitoring of CO levels, even during power outages. And the unit has an alarm that tells you when the batteries need to be replaced. For peace of mind, a test / reset button allows you to test that alarm is functioning properly. Plus, the KS901 is equipped with a peak-level memory that keeps track of the maximum CO level detected between resets. The KS901 is covered with a five-year manufacturer’s limited warranty and replacement is recommended after seven years.

Kidde is a leading manufacturer of advanced fire protection equipment, comprising some of the best known and most trusted brands in the fire industry. Its products range from the latest fire detection and alarm technology, through engineered fire suppression systems, to hand-held fire fighting equipment.

I wanted a simple detection alarm for my house and this was the ideal product. The instructions are very clear on how to test and place the alarm in your house. I wanted something to help keep my family safe and this is brilliant. The alarm itself is loud and can be heard all over the house when placed in my lounge, which is very open plan.

If you don't have an open plan house I would recommend an alarm for each level in your house for extra peace of mind in case of emergency.

my last detector gave up the ghost before Christmas so this was badly needed. Sits on my sideboard as its compact and was okayed by the gasman doing work in my house.

I was very pleased with this alarm as it fits on my sideboard out of the way,and the alarm is very loud when testing it and it was a lot cheaper than buying on the high street.Since posting this reveiw the gas fitter servicing my boiler said i needed to put alarm higher up than my sideboard for it to be effective. So have moved to top of a unit.Hope info helpful to others.

Easy to set up, as described - very pleased with purchase, alarm has not activated yet so I assume there are no monoxide fumes and it is working. Flat base means you can use it portable by placing it on table tops.

A good basic CO alarm of a reasonable size and looks, with the added advantage that you can change the batteries. It is supposed to let you know when they need changing but I haven't experienced this yet as I have only just installed it.

BUT, make sure that you get a working one in the first place. I ordered two when our old detectors, originally installed by Lifeline, who failed to service/replace them, and which the county council started charging for, came to the end of their life anyway. I did some sums and quickly proved it was cheaper to buy our own.

However, the first one I installed was OK for a couple of days and then started going off randomly for no reason, so I swapped it for the second one and that seems fine. I requested a replacement but the suppliers quickly gave me a refund as they were out of stock only a few weeks ago and didn't know when they would get some more. Net result - we now only have one detector instead of two!

For information, these detectors do go on a wall but, unlike some, they have two screw fixings, not one. Our old ones only hung on one screw and I'd hoped these would too, which would save messing up new decoration, etc., but no, two screws.

And finally a couple of words of warning. Firstly ALL these CO detector/alarms have a life span of 5 - 7 years after which they must be replaced. Most warn you. It is nothing to do with the brand; it is the cell technology.

Secondly, reading some of the other reviews, some people seem to think that it is alright to just stick these devices on a shelf or sideboard or wherever. It is not. These devices must be placed at an appropriate height above the appliance which they are monitoring. Read and follow the instructions.

Brilliant! I bought this unit to take on holiday, as you read about many accidents abroard because of the low standards of workmanship with Gas/combustion boilers. Just remember to ISOLATE batteries so as not to activate on Plane!

Good unit, very loud alarm, bought for my daughter living in shared rented accomodation at Uni. Landlords do provide smoke alarms but why wouldn't you insure against all risks?
