Book Description

24 Mar 2006
From the twisted minds of bestselling writer Grant Morrison ("The Invisibles") and master illustrator Duncan Fegredo ("Enigma") comes a messiah for the new millennium! When Heaven accidentally claims the soul of a young boy 75 years too early, "the kid" is given the power to resurrect any dead human he desires. But, the kid has been in hell for the last thirty years; and when a dying stand-up comedian inadvertently frees him, he's terrified to discover that hell's still snapping at his heels. Now Kid Eternity, his new companion, and every dead person who ever lived must strive to enlighten a new generation, before darkness consumes the world. But is the kid all that he seems?

2.0 out of 5 stars Eternal Drag 13 April 2009
Format:Paperback
Kid Eternity rewritten as only Morrison can.
And yet, something falls flat. The artwork? (Too highbrow) The flashcuts? (Too much finesse) The adult perspective? (Too unsuited).

For fans of Morrison, or fans of the original Kid E, but not for a casual browser, or even for someone like me, a fan of comics per se.

Worth a skim, but nothing further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, Horrifying, Beautiful 30 Oct 2011
By Theo TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
"What are they"?
"The souls of bad babies".

To me those lines bespeak, as well as any might, of what lies in store for the reader who ventures into this work. Painted not drawn from beginning to end, this is one of those very rare titles where the art throughout lives up to the standard we see on the cover.

Kid Eternity tells the story of a literal journey into Hell, but one of surprising depth and complexity. Dante with a post-modern aesthetic, this is a tale of personal horror and revelation as much as it is a splatterfest. And even when we are confronted with splatter, it is never mindless. It is in fact used to devastating effect.

Kid Eternity tells its tale through a complex and at times even disjointed mosaic that makes real demands upon the reader. I still remember my amazement on seeing the first issue, way back in 1991. In fact, this is a title that will always hold a special place for me because it was the very first I encountered that proved that the "comic book" medium could give voice to a genuinely serious and thoughtful work. I'd always known that it could be done. But this was the first book I found that actually did it.

Kid Eternity is not an easy work; not one that reveals itself fully without some thought and reflection on the part of the reader. But then, that's part of its appeal.

Buy it. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Theo.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterclass 19 Dec 2009
By Brian
Format:Paperback
Too good for its own good - that's the problem here.

Some of the best art in comics, the best writing, the best composition.

Only read if you have an open mind - not a comic for the dullard.
