Amazon.co.uk Review

In Disney's The Kid Bruce Willis takes a holiday from his tough-guy roles to play Russ Duritz, a grouchy PR consultant who has lost touch with his inner child and spends his days bullying his secretary and being mean to his sweet-tempered girlfriend (Emily Mortimer). Then a rather podgy child appears who turns out to be Russ himself, eight years old, newly arrived by a trick of time-travel never really explained. In the course of some amusing scenes the boy persuades Russ of the error of his ways, so that by the end he even likes dogs (hating them being an infallible sign of a bad character). Willis shows, not for the first time (remember his early TV series Moonlighting?), that he has a gift for comedy and it's a pleasant hour and a half; though there are few really big laughs, kids of all ages will probably like it. --Edward Buscombe

Synopsis

Russ Duritz is a success--he has looks, he has money, and he has power. The only things he's missing are friends and a conscience. But when an eight-year-old boy mysteriously keeps popping up in his high-security home, Russ finds things getting strange: The boy turns out to be himself at age eight--Rusty. Once Russ is able to even accept that the boy is who he says he is (with the hilarious help of Dana Ivey as a therapist under pressure and Lily Tomlin as Russ's assistant), he resists being associated with that image of himself yet again: a pudgy "loser" with a speech impediment. His halfhearted attempts to court his assistant, Amy, are accelerated when his younger self decides to take a hand. Russ thinks he's supposed to help his eight-year-old self become less of a geek, but Rusty might be there to teach Russ a thing or two about the things that really matter. Director Jon Turteltaub also produced this nostalgic, shamelessly emotional film, which features cameos by Larry King and Harold Greene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Fabulous, 2 May 2008
By J. Gentles (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A very quirky film starring Bruce Willis as a professional who by some strange time force meets himself when he is 8 years old to right the wrongs that he had done throughout his life or does he????? A movie for the whole family and well worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful film!, 22 Sep 2009
By SonsyLady (Midlands, UK) - See all my reviews
What more could you want in a film?

Firstly, it has a good story: a middle aged, narcissistic man is forced to take a look at who & what type of person he has turned into, with a chance to redeem himself.... but will he?
Secondly, it has a VERY handsome actor
Finally, there is a cute puppy...

What more could a lady want in a film? I loved it!! One of Bruce's best films I think :o)
