Product Description

The new iK501 now certifiably works with iPhone,TM along with iPhone 3G and all 4th-generation or newer iPod media players. Another feature is composite video output, allowing the user to play video from the unit to larger screens. Still portable and still loud, the iK501 iKICKTM still features the outrageous, square-shaped reflex subwoofer on the back of the unit, along with a pair of five-inch woofers and silk-dome tweeters. It's all juiced by a powerful internal amplifier with digital signal processing for the richest, best-sounding docking system available. Dig deeper into DSP with the thin infrared remote, fully featured to fine-tune the iPod or iPhone's music and video content. It helps to navigate with ease through the iK501 system menu, adjusting bass, treble, and aux-in options, as well as through the iPod or iPhone's menus and sub-menus. Skip forward and back, fast-forward and back, play and pause, volume, mute, and power on/off selections have their own buttons too. The rotary knob manually serves as the power and selection push button, and controller for bass, treble, auxiliary-input options, or standby mode. Standby will continue to charge the iPod or iPhone even when the system is powered down. In the dark, the knob is back-lit in blue and the display LCD screen continues to steer the user easily through the menu. A minijack input allows a hookup for stereo sound from alternate media, including other MP3 or compact-disc players, desktop and laptop computers, or satellite radio. RCA stereo outputs allow for even more alternative audio hookup. A two-foot auxiliary cable, integrated carrying handle, AC power cord and 22-volt power supply add up to complete a convenient and enjoyable entertainment experience.

I was kind of reluctant getting these speakers but after a weeks use I'm absolutely glad that I did. For such a small package it's so much louder then I expected, volume goes up to 40 I find 10-20 is loud enough for me but great to know I can get more from them. Can adjust the treble and the bass to suit you and your music, bass is really powerful but not overpowering, again how on earth have kicker's got so much from such a small package. The quality of the sound is amazing, I'm no expect but these sound good. A remote is provided, it provides basic controls, I mostly use it to change volume and skip tracks. Very inconvenient to use the remote to navigate your music library on your iPod/iPhone. It's aggressive looking, not attractive as other speakers but have a quality build about it. They are not portable but are light enough to carry around comfortably.

I brought it for my iPhone 4 and it works perfectly fine with it, I haven't needed to put my phone into airplane mode, a very nice surprise. Another nice surprise is the dock chargers my phone even when listening to music. I honestly can't think of any issues I've found (yet), when receiving a call or text it just stops the music, exactly what you would expect it to do. You got an aux connection so most mp3 players can connect to it, there's another connection but I don't know what that is.

I don't know the difference between these speakers (ik501) and the other ones (ik500) but I got these ones because its the newer model. I think there is only one other speaker dock that matches this one in terms of size, sound and quality is the b&w zeppelin which looks awesome but cost £400. These speakers are a great, I would totally recommend them to anyone, a huge range of events these could entertain from garden parties to house parties or like me just have them in your bedroom.

Awesome 17 Jan 2011
I Bought this docking station for an iPod purchased as a Christmas present by our daughter for my wife, who is incidently 73 years young. Having read the reviews I decided to purchase the Kicker IK501, in preference to a Sony SRSGU10IP, on Friday the 14th January and it was delivered on Monday the 17th January. I immediately set it up and connected the 5th Generation iPod and my wife is absolutely delighted. It might be £87 more expensive than the Sony but it seems well worth it. Not having previously owned a Bose docking station, but certainly having heard one, I cannot say whether or not it is better, but the sound can only be described as awesome. Would certainly recommend.
