Book Description

15 Aug 1999
This book sets out, examines and defines the techniques, methods and practices that make up the training of a kick-boxer. It serves as an A-Z manual to be used as a reference to solve or re-examine problems of craft or skill and takes the reader through a process, starting with the most basic techniques through timing and distance, power and speed, sparring and conditioning, finishing only when the fighter, having fought, steps out of the ring to be de-briefed by the coach. This guide aims to open up the path for success in a comprehensive treatment of the practice of kick-boxing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Already converted 18 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
As a 1st Dan (black belt) in shotokan karate i believed i had a certain amount of fighting prowess. That is until i bought Pat's book. Years of karate basics instilled the techniques but i was amazed at how pat whittles away the traditional pap to uncover truly effective and efficient punches and kick. Although i will always love Karate, i know for certain which techniques i would employ in a real fight. This book teaches you how to punch and kick effectivly whether you are a novice or a Black belt. If combined with traditional martial arts knowledge you become a much more confident and dangerous opponent. The techniques are explained and described fully, using very informative pictures and are perfect for learning from scratch or for adapting traditional techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best of its kind 18 Mar 2004

Format:Paperback
I would never normally write a review but Mr O'Keeffe's book is the best training manual i have ever read. I have had it two years and still dip into it a few times a week and recommend it to anyone new to the sport. His training schedules and advice on conditioning and diet are worth the cover price alone.
