The film begins in 1954 and ends in 1965. The film is based in the Hindi film industry of the 50s. It is the story of two talented people. Albeit the slow pace of the movie, it is interspersed with staccato references to the cunning ways of celebrities. Zaffar is a talented writer (Shiney Ahuja) who liberates an actress (Soha Ali Khan) from the stranglehold of a powerful actor (Rajat Kapoor), and then begins to use her for himself. It also shows how a powerful actor Prem Kumar(Rajat Kapoor), being an excellent man-manager controls a lot of what happens in the film industry of the 50's. The film is a fine take on celebrities and their varied life styles. One can literally draw parallels and correlate the characters in the movie to today's cinema stars. Nikhat (Soha Ali Khan) chooses to burn away rather than fade away from her life, not before delivering her best performance in Zaffar's film Khoya Khoya Chand.

4.0 out of 5 stars it is a wonderful film to watch. 6 May 2011

Sudhir Mishra's 'Khoya Khoya Chand' is his tribute to the classic Hindifilms of the 1950s-1960s which is considered the golden era of Hindi cinema.
The characters are very well written. Even the supporting characters have a strong presence with little screen time (of course credit goes to the actors as well).Shiny Ahuja is brilliant as the tormented Zafar. Rajat Kapoor is a scene stealer. Ditto Sonia Jehan who is wicked, seductive and vulnerable as the sensual Ratanbala. Vinay Pathak is sublime. Sushmita Mukherjee and Saurabh Shukla provide some comic relief.

'Khoya Khoya Chand' was a visual treat for me and seeing current actors in this period piece made me feel as though I too had moved back in time and was watching a movie sometime in the 1960s. It might not be a film that adhere's to everyone's taste but it is a wonderful film to watch.
