I wanted to replace my vinyl recording and came to this release by the Armenian Philharmonic after seeing a positive review on Gramophone magazine. I'm a bit conservative about recordings and artists, but this was an incredibly lucky find. Throughout the three suites, the clarity and clear musical excellence of orchestra and conductor shine through, matched by a very high technical quality of the recording. The orchestra mixes a kind of folk-baroque with a grand classical style to provide enormous range. The highlight for many will be the Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia - the emotional interpretation, along with the building crescendos will appeal to those nostalgic about the 1970s BBC series The Onedin Line. A real complement to anyone's CD collection. Recommended.
