Product Description

Review

'Too often literary introductions try to obscure differences between the 'then' and the 'now' when attempting to woo students to the period or offer seemingly easy points of access for new readers; this introduction preserves and celebrates the difference of the period and its literature without suggesting that it is inaccessible.' - Matt Woodcock, University of East Anglia, UK

'This is an immensely readable reference book.' - Helen Smith, Times Higher Education Textbook Guide

Product Description

The volume provides readers with a clear introduction to English Renaissance literary texts. Concise but detailed entries are alphabetically arranged, providing a coherent overview of central issues in the study of writings of the Renaissance era. Cross-referencing and suggestions for further reading indicate connections between topics.

By Sarah A. Brown VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
In the past I've often regretted the lack of a clear, accessible and interesting introduction to Renaissance literature and its contexts. Malcolm Hebron's excellent book fills that gap perfectly. The book is organised around a range of well chosen topics - sexuality, religion, humanism etc - and offers a crisp and clear essay on each, with suggestions for further reading. There's just enough detail on each topic, and it's consistently intelligent and readable.

Hardly the sort of title you would imagine to be gripping reading. But it is! Hebron has achieved wonders. A readable, informative work for anyone with an interest in the subject. Or maybe it might even make you interested?
