The story running through issues #1-5 of Dynamite Comics' new Green Hornet series are collected as Kevin Smiths Green Hornet TP Vol 01: Sins of the Father. This opening story is based on an unused film script written by Kevin Smith some years before the recent film was finally made. There are a few similarities to the film, but the two have got far more differences, and tell their own stories. The artwork is good, as is the scripting, but it is going to be down to personal inclination as to how good, and whether you are interested in the adventures of a new Green Hornet and Kato, or would prefer the old ones.

The original Green Hornet and Kato have retired, after their five year campaign to bring down the major crime families of Century City has successfully completed. Now, with a grown-up son, Britt Reid runs his newspaper, but he is struck down by the mysterious Black Hornet, leaving his son in charge. Fortunately, Kato and his daughter are on hand to reveal his father's secrets to him, and a new Green Hornet and Kato take to the streets for revenge. There is corruption in high places again, and the son of one of the Yakuza sent to prison by the original Green Hornet is looking for his own revenge. The opening chapters of the story are interesting enough, with good artwork and scripting; but is the Green Hornet an interesting enough character to carry a series nowadays? I read a library copy, and will read more, but it is a very personal choice.
