I bought this book as a reference scorce as I am studying to be an interior designer myself. This book is great for learning about period styles, and getting to know the tools that you will need for a professional finish.
I have found Kevin McClouds books are aimed at people like me, who know the basics, but want to progress more into the technical side of decoration.
Although heavy reading, it is one of those books you will come back to again and again, and worth the extra money spent on it. This manual will more than pay for itself in the knowlege it gives you.
