DVD Description

From the team who brought you Star Stories comes this rollercoaster ride of irreverent impressions, parodies and utter madness…

Hold on to your seats – when Kevin Bishop’s got the remote there’s not a safe celebrity in TV land. This channel-hopping, high-speed comedy stuffs over 40 sketches into each episode. From Pimp My Ride with Stephen Hawking to Die Hard 5 with Bruce Forsyth; from Sophie's Choice – The Musical to Griff Rhys Jones and The Temple of Doom.

If ‘Taking the P’ was a GCSE, Kevin’s heading for an A* as he rips into Amy Winehouse with her new Bond theme The Booze Is Not Enough; Simon Cowell, whose brother seems to runs a convenience store in Rotherham and Colin Farrell in his constant quest for love.

There’s Very Blue Planet – the post watershed version; the lost Carry On film Carry On Hand Luggage; a celebration of Jack the Let Ripper; Grange Hill USA and loads, loads more.

So take a deep breath and prepare to be entertained – unless you happen to be Jonathan Ross, Gordon Brown, Ross Kemp, Gordon Ramsay, Sir David Attenborough, Rick Stein, Bob Geldof – or practically anyone who has shown their face on TV!

“…monumentally silly parodies and tart showbiz impressions, quite the thing.”--The Guardian

“wince-makingly funny”--Radio Times

4.0 out of 5 stars "You Find Me Funny, YES?", 12 Aug 2009

This review is from: The Kevin Bishop Show [DVD] (DVD)
Kevin Bishop is no stranger to the cinema system, being in Pot Luck & Russian Dolls back in 2002, and now he's got a spot sandwiched between the Big Brother evictions, but life wasn't always so sweet for the cheeky lad - but his pilot on Comedy Cuts really did start interest for The Kevin Bishop Show, a blend of TV parodies, mockumentaries and just general silliness all with the Sky Digital look, so it feels like you're in control.

This show spanning 6 episodes is funny, and some of the best moments include The Daily Mail DVDs; like "worst conversations to overhear on the bus" and "screen tests" which is hilarious. Bishop's favourite though is Gordon Ramsey ("yes") and he does him pretty well; and I like the American versions of our shows, especially Last Of The Summer Wine; where he makes them middle aged - funny stuff.

There are some dodgy moments in the show though; like his obsession with Nazis, which he does a lot, but the best of them is Little Hitler where he's Hitler when he was in his teens. Sometimes his humour can cross a line with people, but the majority of his comedy on these 2 DVDs is pretty good and very entertaining.

The DVDs are well set out, with the Sky Digital banner for the menu, and sadly, the R&B video in the background (not a big fan of his R&B mocking) and on the first disk you get to choose what episode you want to see, or play them all. There are subtitles in English in SDH, otherwise this first disk is bare bones. Disk 2 has all the extras, like the pilot, which is a bit bizarre because some of the music has been replaced from when I saw it on Comedy Cuts. There's also a behind the scenes with Kevin and some bloopers which bored me, because really there are 5 bloopers repeated around 5-6 takes and it gets dull. There's nearly an extra show with 20mins of deleted scenes which is really nice, and made buying this worthwhile. The strange thing about disk 2 is that you can't choose what episode you want to watch, you have to go through "play all" and then skip to the one you want, not good.

The sound and picture are spot on with this and better than the original C4 airings, all in widescreen with a 5.1 mix, which is nice.

The strange thing about this set is disk one is an 18, and disk 2 is a 15? Why they did this is beyond me, after all if you're 15 they won't sell you this, yet if I buy it, I can show my 15 year old sister the second disk only? It's lunacy!

Great show, worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC series, 5 Dec 2011
This review is from: The Kevin Bishop Show [DVD] (DVD)
If you like comedy... if you like sketch shows... if you like a laugh a minute show... you will LOVE this series
this show is a hilarious sketch show and takes the mick out of all things to do with TV, weather doing their own versions (like countdown and big brother) or making up shows that could exist (like celebrity siblings) and taking the mick. I couldn't stop laughing.
If you don't like the sound of it yet, you get to see Karen Gillian wearing nearly nothing on multiple occasions... you can't complain about that sight.
I have to admit the humour is a bit simple, but if you like the sort of comedy you see on little Britain or family guy, this is your next favourite show.
Brilliant acting, brilliant cast, brilliant jokes, brilliant show
