Amazon.co.uk Review

Blend and foam fruit into healthy smoothies that are available on tap with the Kenwood SB206 Smoothie Maker. Smoothies are the milkshakes of the new millennium and as well as being very tasty, they can be healthy too. The Kenwood SB206 is designed to cope with fruit and ice as well as milk and other liquids. The wide funnel-shaped goblet means everything falls neatly onto the blades and makes it easy to clean as well. You don't have to struggle with grooves or latches, because the goblet just sits in the base. There's a tap too, so you don't have to tip everything up to get your smoothie out.

The goblet has the usual volume marker on the side (capacity is 1.5 litres) and it's also marked to show you how much fruit or ice you can put in, how much liquid you can put in and (most useful of all) how many people will get a drink.

This isn't a multi-purpose liquidiser--the blades are raised above the spout of the tap to produce a nice foamy smoothie, so it's not good at grinding dry ingredients. If you're mixing something particularly thick, pop in the stirring stick to make sure everything gets well mixed; this makes your smoothies even foamier. The powerful motor can cope with frozen fruit, ice cream or ice cubes and the high-speed Smooth button finishes your drink in under 60 seconds.

Smoothies are a great way of getting kids (and adults) to enjoy their daily dose of fruit. But if you're going to make smoothies every day you want a blender that's easy to clean. The goblet, lid and stirring stick are dishwasher safe but they also wash quickly under the tap because there are no nooks and crannies for pulp to lurk in. It's surprising how much difference the shape of the goblet and the tap make to the SB206; just make sure the tap is closed before you start filling the goblet. --Mary Branscombe

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and always effective- but read the instructions!, 9 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Kenwood Smoothie SB206 Smoothie Maker (Kitchen & Home)
I have used this machine once or twice a week, with a range of ingredients (including frozen) and have never had any difficulties with any aspect of it's performance.

People seem to cite the tap as an impractical gimmick, but if you read the 'Tips' section in the book that accompanies the machine, you will see that it is reccommended you keep the smoothie maker switched on (i.e. still mixing) while you use the tap. If you follow this, the tap will function perfectly and you shouldn't get any fruit pulp choking it up.

Also, the recipe book is extremely useful as it gives you an indication as to the types, combinations and volumes of ingredients that will blend to give a good smoothie. When you have a feel for this, you can start making your own.

Obviously, you can't just pummel a sack of fruit into the gobelt and reasonably expect a mess free, tasty drink that won't clog up the tap - you have to use the smoothie maker for what it was designed for.

Basically, if you follow the instructions and make sure the blend of ingredients you are using can actually come together to make a drinkable drink, then this machine won't dissappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tastes so good it must be bad for you!, 28 July 2003

I've just had to purchase one of these machines after experiencing one my girlfriend bought about a month ago. At first I thought it would a 5-minute wonder that would spend the rest of its days sitting idle on the kitchen work-top. How wrong I was! This baby makes some fabulous creations. What I love about it is that you can put just fruit and ice in (mango and bananas is my favourite), and what comes out tastes so fantastic that you can't quite believe it's actually healthy for you! What better way to encourage you to eat more nutritious fruit? If you're feeling a bit naughty you can add some vanilla ice cream in, but you'll find you don't need to generally, the fruit-based productions are so good (certainly better than ones you buy in shops for extortionate prices). Experimenting with different recipes is fun too, and it's very easy to clean. At this price, the smoothie maker is a such a bargain, I'd say give it a go - I really don't think you'll regret buying one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kenwood SB206 Smoothie Maker, 5 Aug 2006

I've had this smoothie maker for about three years and cannot fault it.It blends soft fruits, hard fruits, ice and seeds without any problems(just don't add the seeds before any liquid, otherwise they block the tap and remain whole). It liquidises soup well but I find it is better not to use the tap when decanting the soup as this clogs easily. It is relatively easy to clean, just add soapy water then press the boost button (the majority of the smoothie is cleaned away) before taking it apart to clean further.A small bottle brush will clean inside the tap.
It is a worthwhile addition to any kitchen and a great way to get the kids to eat healthily!
