I bought this Kettle in Feb 2009 directly from Amazon for £24.99. It was to replace a silver plastic kettle that had come to the end of it's life. I wanted a Kettle with a brushed metal effect, a decent spout as the plastic one did not pour the water well and for no more than £25. First thing I noticed was that the Kenwood is not too noisy at all and it does not have a bulky shape. The handle is sturdy. The boiling time for the full 1.7 litres does not seems excessively long. The hinged lid opens up nicely to fill it up. It has a large, easy to get to limescale filter and a single "window". The "on" switch lights up and nothing else. We have been using it daily for over 6 months with no leaks and no other problems. Oh..... and it pours so much better than our old kettle as in, into the mug and not all over the kitchen top!! Therefore 5 Stars.

Based on its current Amazon price of £18.99 I think this is the best buy for a kettle on Amazon currently. We bought one.

Our criteria for choosing a kettle was no different to anyone elses:
    a) 3 Kilowatt power
    b) 1.7 litre capacity
    c) Brushed steel jug style
    d) Sub £20.

The kettle has just one window, ideal for right-handers but probably not so for left handed people who might prefer a kettle with a window on each side. The window is large and allows you to see not just the level of the water, but also to see the water actually bubbling and boiling.

There is no light inside the kettle like on some models, but just one on the switch which lights up when on.

You can fill the kettle through the spout, so no need to keep lifting the lid.

It's brushed steel finish is smart and clean. I prefer brushed steel to shiny stainless steel which I find marks too easily.

In summary, it's only a kettle, but its a good one, it's cheap and it's smart. Recommended.

When selecting an item on Amazon studying reviews is essential especially the bad ones. The problem with selecting this kettle was that there were some bad reviews for every product I looked at. After having a kettle that lasted many years, followed by a series of disappointingly short lived products, I was looking for a product that was tough and functional rather than fashionable or stylish.

The Kenwood SJM250 Stainless Steel Metal Jug Kettle, seemed to fit the bill but there were those reviews about leaking etc. However, I decided to go ahead and purchase this model.

So far it has been perfect. Obviously, the time factor comes into this, but if the kettle is still working in a couple of years I will be well satisfied because the purchase cost is not too high.

    Pros
Easy to fill, Easy to see water level, Heats water quickly, Turns off quickly when water reaches boiling point, Easy to lift and pour, Smallish footprint, Spare cable length winds inside base, looks reasonable.
    Cons
It is slightly noisy but this only lasts for a short time and only affects you if you are listening to the radio or TV.

    Summary
It is always a slight gamble purchasing any product because you might just get one that evaded quality control at the factory, however, with the security Amazon customer care I would recommend this product.

After reading some of the reviews for this product, I was a bit undecided on whether or not to buy it. I'm glad I did. It is neat, the water level is clearly visible, and the strength of the boil, is impressive as you watch it through the window. Yes it does seem a little louder than some but that is a minor issue. The fact is it does what it says on the box, and does it efficiently and reasonably quickly. Easy to fill and easy to pour out. I would recommend this product, not just for the name of Kenwood, but from personal use.

Seems like a solid kettle for the price. Been in use for a few weeks with no issues.

Good easy pour spout - does not splash when you pour. Noisy, but that is the case for all rapid boil kettles.

This is my 3rd Kenwood kettle in a row - the last one went on for over 4 years. They do seem much better than the Russell Hobbs and Morphy Richards ones.

I bought this kettle after more reading of reviews than a kettle probably deserves. In the end I chose this one because I wanted one that was metal inside and out which it is (apart from the lid). I've had it a couple of weeks and so far so good. The only functional gripes are that it is a little loud when it is boiling and the lid is actually quite small and doesn't open too wide so it's a little awkward to fill from my tap. These are only minor gripes though so all in all I'm happy with the purchase.

I purchased this kettle via Duronic.
It worked well at first but after a short time kept cutting out during the boil process and had to hold the switch down.
    This happens every so often.
Also leaks slightly and limescale is developing around the joins between plastic and stainless steel.
I complained to Duronic but as I had discarded the packaging their only response was for me to take it to my nearest Kenwood specialist for repair.
My advice - do not purchase this item.
