Like a couple of the reviewers I've pondered over buying a Kenwood Chef for many years. The cost has always been the main factor. Well I'm so glad I eventually treated myself to one.
I'm lactose intolerant so I have to make a lot of my own food, for instance pastry. Now as anyone who cooks will know making pasty can be a hit or miss thing. Not with the Kenwood Chef, I made both sweet & short crust pastry in minutes. It was the best I've ever made. I also made cheese scones (yes with well known lactose free milk, hard cheese is virtually lactose free), they were so light & tasty I'll not be mixing by hand anymore.
I also bought the pasta attachment which is easy to use & clean. As long as you clean up straight away. It makes great quick & easy pasta.
If you enjoy baking it really is well worth the money. It's well constructed, easy to use & doesn't actually take up as much space as I thought it would. It's not so noisy, but neither is it quiet. A really fantastic piece of kit, so glad I bought it.
There's a decent recipe book with the Chef. Okay 20 pages are explaining the accessories that you can buy. Plus a few of the recipes require some of the accessories that don't come as standard. So you could say it's more a publicity book than a recipe book. But if you're buying a Chef I'd expect you to have a decent knowledge of cooking. Or at least a good set of cookbooks anyway. You're not buying the Chef for the recipe book are you?
I just want to make one comment on previous reviewer's remarks. The spatula is a plastic spatula & therefore shouldn't be used with boiling hot ingredients. So I think it gives a slightly false report on the accessories with the mixer. As they are overall of very good quality. If you miss use something you can't blame the manufacturer.

This machine is definately the best I have ever used, it's so good I almost expect it to make a cup of tea as well. I read all the reviews before I puchased mine, some said that they had trouble with the calibration, but mine has been fine so far and I couldn't be more pleased, as a cook that makes alot of large cakes this machine is excellent for coping with those mixes.

I had a 'Chef' for 20+ years (and that had been given to me by an old uncle so it was very old). When it finally stopped working, I bought a food processor but it was just not up to the job. That has gone and I'm back with my old favourite. In future I wouldn't buy any other food mixer/processor. Kenwood Chef machines are durable, good looking and easy to clean. You get what you pay for.
