Took me ages to find a decent jug kettle of classic design and with all the features bar the need for buying those expensive water-filter cartridges (pointless when you have a separate water-filter jug, as I do). This kettle is beautifully unfussy, easy on the eye, and has all the features I wanted: it's cordless and sits on a 360 degree base, it has water-level windows on both sides, a removable scale filter and a concealed element, it is spout-fillable and - big bonus - boils quickly and quietly. As I said, just the job.

This is one of the best kettles that I've come across. It has all the features that you could want from a kettle. It's light; the clear panels on the side mean that you can always see exactly how much water you've put into it (so you don't have to waste energy on boiling more water than you need); the catch on the lid is really precise and makes for easy opening; the opening itself is wide (very useful for filling); the rotational base means that it's suitable for left or right handed use; it has a light in the switch so that you know when it's switched on; it has a filter in the spout; it has a 3kW concealed element (which is easier to clean and boils faster than a traditional element); and (most importantly) I know loads of people that have this kettle and it is hugely reliable!

The reviewer that found the kettle noisy is quite right - concealed element kettles tend to boil faster, but the trade off is an increase in noise level. Having said that, plastic kettles tend to be quieter than their metal equivalents. Kettles also become noisier as they start to get affected by limescale. If you live in a hard water area, regular descaling is a must - a limescale free kettle is quieter, boils faster, pours better (if the filter in the spout is kept clean), and is less likely to leak (the limescale can open up seams left behind from the manufacturing process)!

Easiest way to descale a kettle:
1. Fill the kettle to just past the level that you would normally fill it to.
2. Boil the kettle (make sure you do this BEFORE point 3).
3. Pour in the contents of a small squeezy lemon.
4. Carefully remove the filter (it'll be hot) and drop it into the water.
5. Leave the kettle overnight.
6. Rinse out thoroughly in the morning and replace filter.

This is a perfectly functional kettle, excellent for the price. It loses a star because it takes a little longer to turn off when boiling than I would like, but is still much better than the kettle it replaced.

It also does not turn off when you lift it from the base, which is a small feature but one I would have liked.

It works great, looks good.

This kettle "does what it says on the tin" at an extremely good price. It fills from the spout, boils fast, cord storage, lightweight, etc, etc, etc. You won't go wrong with this one.

I was looking for a simple white cordless kettle and this fit the bill perfectly. It works fine and boils quickly, and looks straightforward which is what I wanted. The one drawback (and reason for 4 rather than 5 stars) is that it is a LOT noisier than our old "curly-wurly element" boiler. I suspect this will be true of most concealed element kettles, especially 3KW ones, but I am not expert. On the flip side, the concealed element makes cleaning much easier. All in all, a great buy if you don't mind a bit of noise.

Amendment to review below - I have since realised that there is additional cord in the base. This increases the length from 30cm to nearly 80cm including the plug. Apologies for the error. Amending a review doesn't appear to allow you to change the star rating, but I would now give it 5*****.

This got a best buy in a certain consumer mag, and as usual Amazon delivered on time at a good price.

The only dislike is the very short cable (probably for safety reasons). If you want to put the kettle a bit further away from a socket you'd have to lengthen the cable.
The 1.5 litre capacity might be too small for some, but OK for us. Our previous kettle was 1.75 litre, but a slow boiling 2KW.

Otherwise a "Best Buy".

I don't normally bother posting reviews of anything I buy, but was so impressed with this kettle I thought it worthy.

This fella has no minimum boil - so you can just fill for one cuppa & save electricity - and has just boiled one-cupsworth in 45 seconds!

It feels substantial, and looks grand enough (but possibly not as space-age as some other more expensive metal kettles around - or have any bells or whistles!).

If you want a kettle for just boiling water and pronto, I really think you'd struggle to find better value than this. Recommended.

Happy brewin,

Bob.
