Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
If you have a larger family, like lots of juice, or get fed up with having to chop up your fruit and veg. to fit into than small feed tubes on many machines then this is the answer. A large diameter feed tube will allow even whole apples to be juiced and because it is of a larger size the pulp container is bigger (3 litres) allowing for more continuous juicing. This juicer also has a powerful 850 watt commercial grade motor which is also very quiet.

4.0 out of 5 stars No juicer is perfect; this one is SUPER., 15 May 2006
By A. Johnsen "weekend philistine" (Oslo, Norway) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a wonderful juice extractor. Read between the lines when reading appliance reviews; it will not be easy to find a juicer to meet this machine's minor shortcomings.
I'd say the two most important things to look for in a juicer are motor power and build quality, and this one is tops in both respects. The metal body has confidence-inspiring heft and the two-way power switch has a high-quality feel to it. Plastc parts are thick and very sturdy. The filter is riveted steel plates attached to a heavy cast-resin base.
As for power, 850 watts is toward the high end of the consumer-oriented spectrum. This makes for stable operation with all kinds of fruits and vegetables (as usual, avoid bananas), and enables Kenwood to incorporate a larger feed tube than you'll find on sub-500w models. No need to core those apples, although larger ones will still have to be split. The motor is also pleasantly quiet on low speed and not offensively loud on high, unlike my previous 350-watt model which always sounded like it was chipping wood.
Some will find the juice from the JE810 on the pulpy side, and many juicers will provide clearer juice. But let me say this: If you are SERIOUS about a healthy lifestyle, remember, first, that you will get more nutrients with a pulpy juice, and second, undiluted fruit juice contains massive amounts of fructose, and by giving your body some fiber to work with you can help counteract this massive sugar influx. Fructose by itself ain't much better than sucrose. Personally, I much prefer the taste of slightly pulpy juice; isn't that why people buy Orangina?
The expelled pulp is dry enough, but what is left on the underside of the plastic cover is on the soggy side. You can send this through again if you're up for it. It's a common juicer problem.
Other minor niggles concern the feed tube. It's much bigger than most, but I wish it was slightly bigger still, to allow larger apples through in one piece. Also, the springy stopper at the bottom of the tube (helps slow big fruit on its way to the knives) can sometimes catch skinnier foods, making them harder to push down. Loading carrots three or four at a time ameliorates this issue.
As for cleaning, it's is no harder than with other juicers. It's boring, but not hard, and well worth the five minutes. Remember never to stick the filter in the dishwasher. The instructions say to wash the other parts in hot, soapy water; no mention is made of a dishwasher at all, in fact.
This appliance is a pleasure to use. Consistent juice quality, low noise, smooth operation. Looks sexy and purposeful. Buy quality; it will help you stay disciplined about your juicing.

2.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing performer, 18 Dec 2005
By A Customer
Came across this good-looking machine in one of the high street stores last week, but ordered from Amazon who were £20 cheaper. The JE810 looks as if it might belong in a juice bar, with its stainless steel finish & hefty 850-watt motor - it's the first appliance I've bought in ages without first reading a review of first (could'nt find any with Google). Having logged onto the Kenwood homepage, I discovered that they also produce commercial juicing equipment, and this is what convinced me that the JE810 was worth shelling out for.

Well I've used this machine four times now, in the two days since it arrived, and I have to say I'm pretty underwhelmed with the juice it makes. While the yield itself is fine, and waste pulp is drier than that output by most centifugal machines, the juice itself is both unacceptably frothy & pulpy whatever combination of fruit & veg is used, and the included jug does a poor job of dispensing froth-free juice too, even when the filter is used. In a direct A/B comparison, a basic carrot/apple/ginger combo was inferior both in consistency & taste from the Kenwood than from another sub-juicer

2.0 out of 5 stars Juicing: Be honest - have you got the self-discipline?, 11 Jan 2006
This is a spectacular juicer: its smooth but squat exterior contains a motor powerful enough to juice house bricks. And it’s terrific fun to use. Simply line up your apples, pears, and (peeled) oranges then drop 'em down the death-shoot and cackle like a psycho as they’re flayed and sprayed for your pleasure. For a vicarious destruction thrill only smashing up your empties at the bottle bank comes close…

So why after six weeks of gorging myself on the most exquisite of juices have I consigned my Kenwood to the cupboard for the rest of time? Well, those few glorious weeks were a honeymoon period. The fact is that this machine is just too inconvenient to be bothered with. I guess most centrifugal juicers are the same, but I’ve no first-hand experience. The Kenwood comprises eight parts, seven of which need washing immediately after use. That represents an entire load for my dishwasher. Even then the fine wire-mesh that physically separates the juice from the pulp needs vigorous and attentive scrubbing with a special stiff brush provided.

For me this is all too much. I can’t afford to give up work just to clean my juicer; nor can I afford to hire someone in. While the juice it produces is superior to anything commercially available, until retirement (in just under 40 years) I fear – like a teenager outgrowing vandalism - it’s all over between me and my chrome-finished Kenwood.
