Loving the Juicing 10 Jun 2007
I spent a few weeks deliberating on whether to buy a dedicated juicer or this attachment for the Kenwood. Generally, I have a preference to having attachments to the powerful Kenwood rather than having lots of different machines cluttering up my work surfaces which have weedy power. However, unlike this attachment some of the juicers on the market can take whole unchopped fruit such as apples which seemed time saving. And I was put off by the previous (and sole) review.

The best juicer (for me) I found in the shops was the Breville one which costs £250, the other less expensive ones including the Phillips did not have the same build qulity. So in the end, I decided to try this much more affordable Kenwood attachment thinking once I knew if juicing was for me, I could sell it on and upgrade to the Breville..

..What a fantastic surprise!

The attachment juices really well and really fast. And this is on the Kenwood's speed 1 as recommended in the attachment's instructions. So it's not noisy compared to say using your Kenwood to whisk at high speeds. You put fruit and veg in the chute and there are two funnels which drop into (your own) separate containers. One for juice, one for pulp. This I think is a big plus over a dedicated juicer. As it says on the box, the attachment is 'non stop'. You can juice for as few or many people as you like in one go. No need to empty/clean an in-built pulp container or juice from a machine. It reminds me of the vegetable slicer attachment which is so much better than using a food processor for that task.

As the machine is so fast, you do need to get all your fruit and veg washed and ready before you start. I now don't think the inability to take whole apples as with dedicated juicer is a hassle. You'd have to cut some other things anyway, e.g. if you were using mango, you'd have to take the stone out. And juicing recipes often call for half an avocado or a chunk of cucumber. So quartering a couple of apples isn't much hassle. I just wash and do rough chopping on a large chopping board and put the board by the Kenwood so it's all ready to go. It takes me about five mins for juice from start (getting stuff out of the fridge) to finish.

Cleaning the unit is quite easy once you get to grips with how the unit dismantles and gets put back together so it becomes second nature. Maybe after a week's use.

So all in all, very happy with the purchase. And what great value for money. As you will know if you're reading this, Kenwood attachments can take up storage space. I have a dedicated large drawer for mine. But this juicing attachment hasn't made it that far!

Fast, and messy 30 Dec 2009
By Paul
I have been juicing regularly for years, both fruit and vegetable, and I previously had a krupp juicer which I inhereted from my parents, think from the 70's, but due to space limitation I decided to replace it with the kenwood attachment.

I am quite dissapointed! It squirts juice on my wall and the ejection of pulp is so high up that I need to use two bowls to collect it (one upside down to get height)and avoid it spreading over countertop. It also tend to clog up, but just keep running and the strong motor pushes out the stuff. I am seriously considering to throw it away and buy a good standalone juicer. Just feels bad on the wasted money.

All the problem is to save a few pence of each machine. I have looked at the construction in detail, and really it is just stupid little things that ruin the design. The guide for the juice could have been pointed more down, the feeding tube could have been aligned to the grating circle, and the grating circle could have had more spikes grating finer.

If you are going to juice small quantitied, i.e. 1-2 glases and have a kitchen with large work surfaces, then it is a good option, otherwise buy a standalone.

Again Kenwood has failed to deliver good attachments.

This juicer works really well and if you have a kenwood already then I think it makes sense to have the attachment rather than a stand alone juicer -but- it is fiddly to set up - you do need to find the right size and shape of bowl to catch the pulp (otherwise it will splatter everywhere as the other reviewer said) and you need to jam a jug under the spout where the juice comes out otherwise that will dribble everywhere. Mine also has a tendency to "migrate" a little under it's own steam so i find I need one hand keeping it from slipping round a little (resulting in pulp/juice not going where it should). But its never jammed up or failed to juice anything so worth a bit of attention to detail to the set up. Hopefully kenwood will improve it in the future.
