Kent & The Battle of Britain by Robin J. Brooks,
This review is from: Kent and the Battle of Britain: The Long Hot Summer of 1940 (Aviation History) (Paperback)
An extremely insightful, nostalgic book and very well illustrated. It will surely be of interest to all - not just to those with military or aviation interests. An interesting journey back to one's childhood and especially for those with Kentish connections (as I have).

The Battle of Britain from Many Viewpoints!,
By Michael OConnor "Wordsmith" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Kent and the Battle of Britain: The Long Hot Summer of 1940 (Aviation History) (Paperback)
Author Robin Brooks presents a 'People's War' version of the Battle of Britain in this 2009 release from England's Countryside Books. KENT & THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN traces the Battle as seen by various civilians and military personnel living or stationed in the County of Kent, over which many BoB battles were waged.
Against the broad backdrop of the BoB, Brooks shares reminiscences, letters, diary entries, newspaper articles, official reports, etc. which give the common man's view of those crucial months. Several RAF combat narratives are included but the reader also hears from civilians - men, women and children! - living under the hail of bombs, civil defense personnel, AAA gun crewmen, Observer Corps members, etc. It provides an altogether different 'take' on that epic battle. The book is illustrated with over 110 rare and evocative photographs, cartoons, diagrams and artworks. All in all, a short but interesting look at England at war. recommended. |
