A bit dull 28 July 2009
Format:Paperback
With Kent being in the front line during the early years of WWII I was expecting the book to be filled with air combat stories. There are a few but these are vague and lack detail. Also, describing a low level attack by saying a plane flew at zero feet is just daft. What the book is mostly about is what squadron was based where and when, what aircraft the squadron's flew and how the airfields developed during the war. Though these facts may be useful to someone doing research they don't make a gripping read. Far more engaging is "Heroes of Fighter Command - Kent" by Rupert Matthews. This does tell the story of what the pilots of fighter command got up to in the Kent skies during WWII. When read in conjunction with "Kent Airfields In the Second World War" the reader gets a very good picture of air warfare in Kent during WWII.
