I've never used a track ball before and was a little weary about buying this at first but am now so glad i did. Take a little getting used to at first but after a week you'll wounder how you managed without. General computer use is great as your not sawing you arm up and down the desk and the scroll ring is top notch. This really comes into play when using photoshop where you can use it to zoom in and out and scroll left right, up down with ease. Really can't say enough about this product. Best money ever spent!

I use this Trackball Mouse for video editing, where the scroll ring is used to move back and forward through the video. Continual use of the scroll wheel on a conventional trackball mouse was causing me problems with arm and shoulder, but this mouse cured the problem.
The mouse is very smooth in operation, button action precise, and the trackball does not collect as much dirt and fluff as a
other trackballs I have used.

I bought this because I have suffered from Carpal tunnel, had the usual op for release so wanted something that would keep my hand relaxed when using the mouse. This has to be the best alternative to the traditional mouse. I would endorse other reviewers plaudits. I should add it takes time to get used to using the track ball but stick with it - you will not be sorry

I have tried out many trackball devices recently and they all seem to be flawed in some way - either they force your hand into a particular position (which often is uncomfortable for my large hands) or they don't include features that I've come to rely on (e.g. the scroll wheel or a middle button).

With the Kensington the two buttons are further 'forward' than other devices such as the marble mouse and I find this more comfortable. Also because the device is symmetrical there's no issue with using it either right or left handed. There's no middle button but once you've installed the Kensington software you can set it up so that both buttons clicked together simulate a middle click which works well for me and is useful in Windows 7.

The scroll ring doesn't have any resistance so I had to play with the scroll speed settings until I found a speed I was comfortable with. However it does mean that with a little practice you can 'flick' it to scroll a larger distance which can be handy sometimes.

Some people say the supplied wrist rest doesn't fit very well but it seems secure enough to me as long as you attach it in the correct manor, plus as you're not moving it around on the desk it seems to stay in place ok. However, although it IS made of a rubber like material, it is quite hard and doesn't really offer much in the way of comfort. Some softer gel based material would be much better I think.

The trackball itself is exactly the same size as the one in the Logitech marble mouse, and trying them side by side there's not much difference in the action of the mechanism. The Kensington feels almost as smooth as the Logitech, but the marble mouse feels a little more 'weighty'. It's really very subjective and the difference is tiny.

I bought this from Amazon to replace a similar mechancial ball, which was my second one of these. After having problems with dirt affecting the rollers on the mechanical ones, the optical one is much better. It picks up some dust but that never prevents the ball working, it just makes it jerky and can be easily cleaned. It is very reliable and fits the hand well. It was worth the money.

Recently I have changed from a mouse to a trackball to relieve RSI. This is the beast I chose. It does look a bit of a beast, but it is so comfortable to use, and the wrist support included is a real innovation compared to others.

I used to use a thumbwheel a few years ago but I find the "Expert" far more comfortable.

It is comfortable to use, and allows great pointer control and options.

Features and flexibility are great also. Scroll ring is great idea, but I agree (with a previous reviewer) a little cheap and tacky in feel - but what the hell - it works fine!

Areas I would suggest could be improved?

- make it wireless

(there used to be a wireless version I think, but discontinued).

I have one of these at work and was carrying to and from home to use in evenings - I am now buying a second one to keep at home.

After 2 weeks I already feel a difference in my RSI - almost gone!!

Even if you do not have RSI, this is a great alternative to a mouse.

This is my first full time trackball, although I have occasionally used the normal Orbit trackball without the scroll wheel. Compared to that one, this one definitely feels less cheap in terms of the materials, with a nice matt finish. The scroll wheel is definitely worthwhile, since it requires much less fine movement of the cursors to corners etc to find scrollbars.

The ball has a good free-spinning movement. My only complaint is that there's not much clearance between the wheel and the buttons, such that I occasionally press a button when I'm going for the wheel, and that the buttons/wheel have a slightly plasticy sound.

Some reviewers have criticized the removable wrist wrest that is packaged with this device. I actually like this, since it encourages the wrist to lie flat. In any case it is easily removable and as such does not diminish the usefulness of the product.
