Product Description

The Kensington KeyCover Plus is a protective case and wireless Bluetooth keyboard for your iPad Air. The iPad Air snaps into the case, which features an anodised finish to resist fingerprints and smudges. QuickRelease rubber corners protect your iPad Air and allow easy access. Inside the case, the KeyCover Plus features a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with backlit keys. When working, an iPad Air can fit into the KeyCover Plus's magnetic well in either landscape or portrait modes. Rubber feet add stability to the KeyCover Plus while working and help protect the bottom surface from scratches.

The KeyCover Plus's backlit keyboard has seven colours to select from. Its Bluetooth functionality pairs instantly with the iPad Air, and can also be paired with multiple devices. The KeyCover Plus also automatically wakes your iPad when you open it and puts it to sleep when it is in the case.

Note: Before buying make sure your iPad model matches! It will still pair with other generations of iPad, but won't work as a case otherwise. Expensive mistake to make

What a sturdy piece of kit! With a premium brushed steel underside to reduce smears and the feel of a MacBook's keyboard it feels like part of the Apple accessories range, with the added bonus of having several different backlight options (currently set mine to green)!

Setting it up is simple, switch on your iPad's Bluetooth, press the "pair" button and type in the PIN code shown in the Bluetooth menu.

How does it work as a case? After carefully putting on the screen protector film (avoiding trapped air and dust!) you can clip your iPad in and release it using the rubberised corner. The magnetised side means it will automatically switch on the screen when you unclip it. The battery life is great (go easy on showing off the illumination) with a quoted time of 60 days, which is way more than enough, and charges off your computer's USB.

Additional features include copy, cut, paste and undo function keys, an unlock, home, Siri, keyboard enable/disable and language function key, plus the ability to control iTunes video and music, PLUS Mac users will appreciate that traditional keyboard shortcuts like Cmd+A will highlight all text, Cmd+X will cut, and so forth.

The one drawback is the mounting angle is very steep! It looks around 75 degrees - fine for portrait mounting, but quite intense in landscape, with nowhere to adjust.

A lesser drawback (not a design flaw) is that Apple hasn't allowed third party accessories the ability to use the left and right arrows to, for example, swipe up and down pages in Safari when browsing the internet, or choose apps when in you press the overview button. It's an iOS problem, not the keyboard's, it was just be nice if Apple allowed their operating system to be hacked to allow it for a truly hands-free accessory!

This is a robust item. First off, it is very well packed into its box. It is easy to set up and already has power so you do not have to charge it up to get started. The main thing you have to do is switch on the blue tooth on your iPad Air and pair the keyboard. The keyboard has a good feel to it and for those preferring a larger layout than the iPad screen it could be easier to use. The fixed angle for the iPad May not suit everyone as it appears quite upright but is part of the design and it does hold the iPad in position. The screen protector is fine but make sure you clean the screen properly before hand. All fits together well but personally I will use the keyboard indoors rather than take the whole thing out and about. If I am taking the iPad outside I prefer the softer Tagus style cover. It is quite easy to take it out of one cover and then use the new KeyCover. Price wise for the quality product that it is the price seems fine and you get a keyboard and a cover/screen protector.

With any new Apple device coming out, it usually takes a while to see high quality 3rd party accessories come out onto the market. Before my iPad Air, I used to own an iPad (3rd gen), used in conjunction with the magnificent Logitech ultra thin keyboard. This was an excellent keyboard, so being used to this, the Kensington Keycover had a lot to live up to.

The item comes well packaged, in an attractive cover, so would make for a highly presentable gift. Inside the box is the Keyboard itself, instructions and a usb to mini-usb charging cable.

The Keyboard has a built-in battery, requiring charging, and connects to your iPad Air using bluetooth connection. Connection is both quick and easy, taking seconds. The keyboard is comfortable enough to type on, although the outer edge does seem to get in your way a little. This is where the actual iPad presses into, for transportation. I should also add, that this system is a little fiddly, both to insert and remove the iPad.

They keyboard is a glossy black colour, with a smoked carbon steel-like back. It looks attractive, but is a fingerprint magnet, so beware! One feature that stands out is the backlit keys. This is an absolute life saver in dim environments, and really sets this keyboard apart. In fact, it may even be enough to recommend this keyboard over others.

All keys you would expect are present. Volume buttons, pause/play and return to home screen. Keys are a good size, and you don’t feel too cramped at all. In fact, I wrote many documents on this keyboard, and after a while, you really forget that yu are working on a tablet.

All-in-all, I am relatively pleased and would definitely recommend this keyboard. Particularly if you are after a backlit one. 4/5

I was really impressed with this well designed Kensington Backlit Keyboard. It is so thin and sleek. The iPad Air snaps securely in place giving full protection. Its' brushed aluminum hard shell resists fingerprints also the quick release rubber corners give the iPad added protection.

It is a touch typist's dream and the backlit keyboard with 7 colours of choice is both functional and looks great.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the mounting angle is quite steep, but I have got used to it now and it isn't a problem to me.

Finally a quick word about the packaging - it was so well packaged it wasn't easy to open the slim box it came in, which is good, because there was no chance of the keypad falling out...

I gave it 4 stars because it looks good, does what it says on the box and I really like it..
