After ordering a mouse pad with wrist rest at work, I decided to get one for home too as I had the occasional sore wrist which I didn't want to get worse.
This looks like a good decision - it doesn't slide across the desk, nor does it restrict the mouse movement.
Although, the pad area is not the largest (72mm wide x 60-80mm back-to-front); you might occasionally run off the edge if you've changed your mouse pointer sensitivity to an extremely low setting.
After I while, I forgot I was using it - which I suppose is the point.
