This fits to the windscreen or to any flat smooth surface, and has to be totally flat or will not create a vacuum and stick.
Having said that, once it is stuck it is sturdy and holds any size iPod, PDA, Mobile phone really well.
The sides work on a ratchet system and you press the button on the back to release them to their greatest width. Then you place in your iPod, push one of the sides closed and the other will close at the same time, until they are holding your iPod nice and firm. Solid as a rock, well designed and a must-have!
I bought a cheaper one, was disappointed and then thought "blow it" and forked out for this. I would buy one as a gift and I would definitely recommend it.
Having said that, once it is stuck it is sturdy and holds any size iPod, PDA, Mobile phone really well.

For the price I wasn't expecting much even with the rave reviews I'd seen. However, from the moment it arrived it felt solid from the packaging to the actual holder feeling like real quality.
I'd go as far as to say that this feels bomb proof and will probably go from car to car with me before it fails. It will definitely outlast my actual Ipod.
The suction cup sticks to the window like a limpet with a simple lever device for cupping the sucker and causing it to stick.
The actual gripper is flexible enough that it could hold almost anything from an Iphone in speaker mode to a Ipod (any model) even cupping the FM transmitter should you want to.
The side obviously slide in and out with a solid ratchet system and the bottom support legs do swivel.
The flexible neck that goes between the sucker and the actual MP3 holder is sturdy and thick and shows no signs of moving under any weight of the player/phone. The arm is long enough to flex the Player to almost any final chosen position almost down the the radio in your dashboard.
I would buy 2 but I don't think the first is going to break any time soon.

I tavel a lot off road and my iPod remains firmly in place on my windscreen. I previously bought a mount from the carphone warehouse which has now been binned.
What is great about his is ther are two replactable feet on the botton to hold the iPod inplace and you can also rotate it in the mounted position.
There is a push button relaes at the back to relaes the iPod and the fpam grips on the side hold my maano firmly on plase with no scratching
