Product Description

Review

It's a rich world-chewing voice, and Salwey uses it to spin tales of a life lived on the backwaters of the Mississippi and the lessons he's learned about the need to protect the enviroment. He also talks about a man who took from the land and now wants to give back. --Pioneer Press

He charms readers with his new book --The Capital Times

With his second book, Kenny revisits some of the same themes, this time in the voice of the hillybilly turned river rat turned literate ridge runner he has become. Quite a tale, indeed --Star Tribune

A great book, evocative it takes the reader right into the wilds. The author sounds like a real character with a love of his wild areas.

Tales of a River Rat 2 May 2006
By LaVerne C. Paulson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
An excellent sequel to The Last River Rat. Kenny tells tales and spins yarns that make you want to read much more. Each story tells not only of life along and on the River in Kenny's own words, but how these experiences have shaped his life. He then uses these lessons to teach us how precious life is, be it the short life of a brown trout, a hunting dog, or a squirrel named Dusky. There is plenty of humor in this book, but interwoven with that are stories of life that cause us to stop and say to ourselves, "These are some powerful lessons to be learned. " Kenny has given many people a different outlook concerning nature itself, life in the swamp, and growing up in a time that was much less complicated. Sometimes we just have to stop and smell the skunk cabbage.

I like Kenny's stories 13 Sep 2009
By Richard Holland - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I felt the book was interesting in that Kenny talks about conservation in a simple manner. He is an excellent story teller. The book also gives interesting insights into how people made a living along the Mississippi in earlier times.
