5.0 out of 5 stars The sweetest sounds I ever heard 24 July 2009
By Alan Scopp - Published on Amazon.com
I have been a huge Trijntje Oosterhuis fan ever since I heard her 2 Bacharach CDs. In this recording, she sings many of those songs accompanied by the acoustic guitar of Leonardo Amuedo. This pairing is a match made in heaven. It is a revelation to hear these songs in such an intimate setting. Trijntje is a consumate song stylist and Amuedo provides beautiful, sympathetic accompaniment. I'm telling you, the wonder of these moving renditions are many. I play these CDs over and over again. Besides the Bacharach songs, she does some pieces in Dutch (including De Zee). I don't know one work of Dutch, but it doesn't matter -- The emotion and the timbre of her voices pulls me in. She also does some familiar pieces: a lovely version of the Beatles "Blackbird" and a minor James Taylor song "4th of July" which has a great loping rhythm and a sophisticated chord progression. She takes that old cliche "You are so Beautiful" and breaths new life into it -- it is so beutiful! Listen to how she ends each song, with little improvisational 'curly cues.' So musical -- so tasty. Amuedo uses a variety of guitars to provide just the right accompaniment. He is a masterful guitarist and accompanist. I implore anyone who likes pop/jazz vocalists to get this CD. Why is this woman not a huge star in the United States? Is it her name? I swear to you she is one of the best female vocalists alive and this CD is an amazing showcase. Her music is very accessible and sometimes the songs are a bit lightweight (e.g. "I'll never Fall in love Again"), but Trijnte finds depth in everything she sings -- check out "Alfie" -- it is gorgeous. The concert is also available on DVD (in the European configuration)--it's a thrill to actually watch her cast her spell. Have you gotten the idea -- I love Traincha!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great intimate concert of a rare vocalist! 7 Feb 2010
By E. Blaas - Published on Amazon.com
Just finished watching the dvd version of this concert. It takes place at De Rode Hoed, a former church in Amsterdam. (She mentiones playing there as a child while her father worked there (as a minister i believe). She and also her brother got married there and she did her first performances in this building.)

The concert in this very intimate acoustic setting, accompanied spot on by virtuoso brazilian guitarist Leonardo Amuedo who normally accompanies Brazilian singer/songwriter Ivan Lins, has a very diverse set of songs. Some McCartney (Blackbird, Calico Skies), of course quite a number of Burt Bacharach songs, and a few in Dutch. I especially took a liking to 'Ken je mij' - beautiful song and lyrics (i assure you ;).

The only time i ever saw her live was at the Concertgebouw here in Amsterdam. I had a free ticket and did not know what to expect, i only knew her by name then. She sang a large Beatles set, accompanied by guitarist Jesse van Ruller, that knocked me off my socks so to speak. Reminded me strongly of the warm and pure voice of Karen Carpenter, only a hint more of 'sandpaper'. Just recently i bought the Bacharach cd's and this concert on DVD and now i'm truly a fan forever! That such a georgeous woman is gifted with such a heavenly voice. Her ancestors must have been doing something very well... :) Must see her perform live again soon!

I also ordered the concert on DVD with all the Bacharach repertoire. Can't wait!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Trijntje Unplugged 14 May 2012

I've recently discovered Dutch singer Trinjntje (Train-Cha) Oosterhuis while listening to an internet radio station out of Europe, Adore Radio. She's got me hook, line and sinker. Album after album of Burt Bacharach, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson covers and a new pop album are just fantastic. Think of Dionne Warwick meets Dusty Springfield meets Donna Summer. This double live CD set finds her in a stripped down setting with just Leonardo Amuedo on guitar to accompany her gorgeous vocals. Most of the songs are from the Bacharach songbook, with a smattering of Beatles, James Taylor and Dutch language songs. Here's hoping we get a chance to see her in the U.S.
