Just finished watching the dvd version of this concert. It takes place at De Rode Hoed, a former church in Amsterdam. (She mentiones playing there as a child while her father worked there (as a minister i believe). She and also her brother got married there and she did her first performances in this building.)
The concert in this very intimate acoustic setting, accompanied spot on by virtuoso brazilian guitarist Leonardo Amuedo who normally accompanies Brazilian singer/songwriter Ivan Lins, has a very diverse set of songs. Some McCartney (Blackbird, Calico Skies), of course quite a number of Burt Bacharach songs, and a few in Dutch. I especially took a liking to 'Ken je mij' - beautiful song and lyrics (i assure you ;).
The only time i ever saw her live was at the Concertgebouw here in Amsterdam. I had a free ticket and did not know what to expect, i only knew her by name then. She sang a large Beatles set, accompanied by guitarist Jesse van Ruller, that knocked me off my socks so to speak. Reminded me strongly of the warm and pure voice of Karen Carpenter, only a hint more of 'sandpaper'. Just recently i bought the Bacharach cd's and this concert on DVD and now i'm truly a fan forever! That such a georgeous woman is gifted with such a heavenly voice. Her ancestors must have been doing something very well... :) Must see her perform live again soon!
I also ordered the concert on DVD with all the Bacharach repertoire. Can't wait!!
