Product Description

Product Description

Doddy - as he is affectionately known - has had books written about him before by people who have never met this legendary and yet very private comedian. Now, for the first time, the Squire of Knotty Ash gives a rare insight into his life of laughter talking about how tickled he has been on and off stage and who and what inspires him. A must souvenir for any fan of this comic genius who lights up all of our lives. The book will be promoted at venues on Ken Dodd's tours covering the length and breadth of UK from January to December each and every year. FROM his debut performance in 1958 to London Palladium and household name status, one-time ventriloquist Ken Dodd OBE, brings joy and laughter to millions. He appeals to all ages with his own creation, the delightful Diddymen, as well as his variety shows including his singing and most off all his trademark rapid joke telling. His career has spanned radio, stage, film and TV appearances and he is one of the most successful recording stars ever - once keeping The Beatles off the number one slot in the 60s. He has been in the Guinness Book of records for his gag-telling achievements and he continues to tour the whole country with his 'Happiness' show - tickling stick at the ready.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ron Wood reviews Ken Dodd's new book, 9 Feb 2010
By

This review is from: Ken Dodd: Look at it My Way (Hardcover)
I am a big fan of Ken Dodd. I have seen " Doddy " live on stage three times and have enjoyed watching his videos over and over with my family. Even though you know what's coming next he is still funny. His style of comedy may seem old hat or corny to the younger generation but he is still a master of his craft. Ken Dodd brings joy and laughter without having to resort to bad language and smut. His humour is " clean " which is refreshing in today's modern society where swearing, sex and violence are in your face all of the time. Ken Dod is a comedy hero of the old school. He is indeed a national treasure.
When I bought this book I knew that it was not a biography. Don't buy it if that's what you are looking for. It is rather a collection of photographs and related text, much of which is humorous, giving a window into the life and work of Ken Dodd. It is a joy to flick through the pages. This book speaks to you as if it were Doddy himself reminiscing. The jokes bring the book to life. I can just imagine Doddy telling them.
One of my secret ambitions has always been to meet Ken Dodd in person. As that is unlikely to happen, this book is the next best thing. It conveys the Ken Dodd effect perfectly. It brings a smile to your face, it's funny, it's relaxing, you may even burst out laughing. I give this book ten out of ten. If you want to own some thing tittyfalarious, if you fancy exercising your chuckle muscles, then get out your giggleometer and buy this book.

This book is exactly what it says on the cover: Happy snaps from the life and times of Ken Dodd.
There are some photos here which even the most ardent fan will not have seen before; it is a delightful visual trip through the life of this country's greatest entertainer ever. So get your copy now, enjoy it, then let's all join together in calling for his authentic autobiography as soon as possible!

I was very disappointed with this book, I was expecting a biography but all I got was a series of photographs with comments. Alan Cooke
