Book Description

26 Sep 2012
For half a century Keith Richards has been the heart and soul of the world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll band, The Rolling Stones. A riff master of the highest order, his direct, incisive and catchy licks have energized such timeless rock anthems as Satisfaction, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Honky Tonk Women. A disciple of such great guitarists and proto-rockers as Scotty Moore, Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters, Keith Richards has forged a personal vocabulary on the instrument that has influenced generations of aspiring rockers. As the songwriting partner of lifelong friend and frequent foe Mick Jagger, he formed an indelible team that has secured a spot in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. The personal life of this larger-than-life rock star has been plagued by excessive recreational drug use. And yet, he is still here. The ultimate rock ’n’ roll survivor, Keith Richards is still the bona fide guitar hero after all these years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keef - in all his piratical glory 19 Dec 2013
By GlynLuke TOP 500 REVIEWER
If the man who recently turned seventy - I raised a glass - isn`t the coolest man on the planet, on the evidence of this 200-page coffee-table extravaganza, he`s certainly one of the most photogenic.
What surprised me, as the years roll by before your eyes, is just how raffishly handsome the old reprobate looks. He was a bit of a weedy-looking, stroppy youngster, but with his lines, wrinkles, and crop of scarecrow hair atop that unmistakeable face, in more recent decades he looks as personable as any rock star has a right to look, his colourful choice of clothing and jewellery only adding to his devilish allure.
There`s plenty to read too in this surprisingly fulsome tome, as well as some of the best, and well-reproduced, photos of Keith and various Stones and others, including several from his time with Anita Pallenburg - though why only one pic with long-time wife Patti Hansen, and even that one has her with her face turned away? Could have done with a lot more of Patti and his kids, just to round out this splendid portrait of the jerkily affable Riffmeister in all his picaresque, tatterdemalion glory.
New York journalist Bill Milkowski`s text is more than readable, and some of the photos - from a variety of sources - are astonishing in their vivid immediacy. Keith has seldom if ever been afforded such a visual tribute.
Mick may be the lithe knighted frontman, Charlie is rightly loved and respected in equal measure, Ronnie is the ligger supreme...but it`s Keef who is the walking, talking, riffing miracle, and there`s plenty of evidence of his unlikely charisma in the pages of this excellent book.
He looks like you`d want to have a drink with him, jam with him, hang out with him, but never cross the guy.
