4.0 out of 5 stars An inspirational chef in amazing surroundings, 11 Nov 2007
By The Penguin "JH" (Great Britain) - See all my reviews
A marvellous set of part travelogue, part cookery show. Floyd is often dismissed as being simply a drunkard, knocking up food in nice locations and rambling on with his camera crew. Interestingly though, you'll often see him cited as a major influence on modern chefs.
This series includes some more unusual dishes from around the med, and encompasses more than just Italy, Spain and Greece - He goes round Turkey, and North Africa too.
Another thing about Floyd is that he comes across a bit 1950s Englishman when dealing with "the natives" but it is clear that there is an amazing amount of affection for people involved in country life and food production.
Theme music a bit dated though!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Top show, lousy dvd, 28 Jun 2009
As always Keith Floyd is a great host for each episode as he treks around the Med with the air of a Lord visiting various colonies. The cooking is good to watch and his role effortlessly branches out into the cultures and people of wherever he happens to be. So why only 2 stars? Because the production company have done something I haven't encountered before - they've removed the end credits rounding off each episode. That might not sound like a big sin, but believe me it is abrupt, weird and never feels right. Every show suddenly plunges into darkness and then a few seconds later the title page (with annoying repeated musical phrase) appears. When a show has no closing music and credits to wrap it up, it doesn't feel like it's reached a natural conclusion and the feeling I'm left with after every single episode is one of annoyance that something slipshod and stupid has gone into my collection.

If there was a bizarre (and presumably unique) reason for ditching an established format which has been adhered to by every single tv programme and film since moving pictures began, I would like to know what it is. Why couldn't a substitute closure routine have been done, no matter how simple? I get caught out whenever I put one of these episodes on so I don't watch them any more. Fortunately this series gets repeated every now and then on ITV3 (I think) and the missing credits are miraculously back in the rightful place. They're brief and easy to ignore, but they do what they're supposed top - they draw the 20-odd minutes to a close instead of pulling the tv rug from under the viewer's feet.
And while I'm having a whinge, I agree with other reviewers who have questioned the running time. So the producers of this dvd have been a little careless.

So if the dvd company ever get round to a proper release of this series, I'll ask them to exchange this irritating half-baked version for one which can be watched. I have the Floyd On Africa, Italy and Spain dvd's in this series, and they do not follow the careless production of this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great show, but too short, 30 Oct 2007
By Claus Waldhueter "Waldhueter" (Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Great show and a even greater Keith Floyd.
BUT, what happend to the 225 Minutes mentioned and promised run time?
There 9 Episodes 20 min each on these 2 DVD's = total 180 min.
No extra's, nothing.
Where are the missing 45 Minutes??
