Synopsis

You are what you eat! When it comes to eggs, what could be better than walking to the bottom of your garden and collecting them daily courtesy of your own chickens? Food doesn't come fresher than this, and the great news is that keeping two or three chickens is really easy. You don't need farmland or lots of special equipment; today's exciting generation of chicken houses means that anyone with a bit of space - a garden, terrace, or simple backyard - can keep chickens. And the added bonus is that chickens make great pets. Low-maintenance and easy-going, provided they are regularly fed and watered chickens virtually look after themselves. No need to take them for a walk, and they come with a lifetime's supply of free eggs. This brilliant new guide to chicken keeping shows just how simple it is to enjoy the pleasure of keeping poultry. It's fun and it's rewarding - so get the chicken habit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping pet chickens, 24 Nov 2005
I got this book prior to getting chickens and found it really useful. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in keeping chickens in their back garden. It goes through anatomy and breeds of chickens, How to prepare your garden, Information on chicken housing and buying chickens and then goes on to tell you how to look after your new pets. I've had my chickens a few weeks and still find this book useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!, 11 Dec 2006
By E. King (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Its contents includes: basic anatomy, breeds, housing and runs, food, garden preparation, the 1st day home, eggs, daily routines, seasonal tips, cleaning, chicken handling, chicken behaviour, health and breeding.

As you can see it covers everything a beginner would need to know, i am extremely pleased with it! I looked at a number of similar books before making the purchase and this book was by far the easiest to read, contained plenty of information but in such a way that it didnt confuse or scare you and covered the widest range of subjects. I would highly recommend it for beginners!

4.0 out of 5 stars New to keeping chickens, 3 May 2005
By A Customer
After wading through many highly technical books on keeping vast numbers of chickens I was delighted to find this excellent publication which keeps it simple but still has all the essential information plus good clear pictures. I highly reccomend this to anyone who only wants to keep 3 or 4 chickens.
