brilliant!! 10 Nov 2010

Format:Paperback
This book is fantastic, however as another reviewer has pointed out it also goes by another title (last chance) which is the title i have. It is confusing that the same book has different titles as i have all of Sarah Dessens books and almost orederd this one until i realised i had it already (i checked the description on the sarah dessen site and yes this book and last chance are one and the same)
All that over it is a fantastic coming of age story about a girl who is used to being in the background and ignored and is struggling with no longer being overweight, no longer having to be on the defensive all the time and learning how to break out of her shell and seperate her self from her mother.

When I first got this book, I didn't much like the look of it, but I read it anyway because I was on study leave and wanted some respite from my revision.
I can't honestly say, out of all the books that I have ever read, that I loved one as much as this book. Colie's story of finding herself and realizing the potential that's been there within her all along, is heart warming and endearing. Whilst her mother lost a load of weight and became hugely confident and famous, Colie didn't; she may have lost the weight but she never quite came out of her shell, and has been hding for all these years under an attitude, black hair, a love of loud and heavy music and, more recently, a lip piercing.
The story is largely centred around issues of self-esteem and confidence, but mostly it's about hope because Colie finally, with the help of Isabel, Morgan and Norman, looks past the rumours and lies from back home and finds friendship, acceptance and the beginnings of a romance.
I loved this book mainly because I could really empathise with Colie, in her desperate struggle to feel accepted by someone for who she was, and not who someone had made her out to be. the story is very well written, and I found Colie's spirit and personal story captivating throughout.
This book is an excellent read for teenagers, and possibly young adults and will leave you feeling good about life, and that things can change for the better if you just have a little self-confidence.

Two of the same!!! 1 Mar 2011

I bought this and Last Chance for my daughter who loves Sarah Dessen but was very disappointed to find they are the same book. A warning to other people who want to buy the books - don't buy both!!!
